Good point, I do hear a lot of electrical feedback with my Bose (partially because it is so darn quiet). The Auto Ignitions and the Prop Deice make a crackling noise in my ear. In one a/c the DME makes some noise too. It is quiet but noticeable.

Default 3 complaints about Bose

I bought mine off of Ebay when I was instructing, and it was not fun to pay for, but the best thing about it is that if I really feel that it's not necessary, I could easily sell it back on Ebay for $800. If you buy yours new, their warranty and service matches, and maybe surpasses, that of David Clark. They pick it up at your door and do not charge you for shipping or repair within 5 years, and in some cases, even longer. It takes up very little room (unlike the lightspeeds), and is ultra-comfortable, even on 7-8 leg days. Noise reduction is incredible...it'l make whatever aircraft you're training in now sound like a mini weed-eater. Just my two cents. If you have a chance to try before you buy (or better yet, compare), I would suggest doing so. Good luck!
I have three complaints about my Bose. One, it squeezes my outer ears and really hurts after a couple of hours. Two, the material on the ear padding has flacked off and unless I use a fleece cover, I have black stuff all over the side of my face. Third, the ear pads have come unglued and seperated from the ear phone. They are about 2.5 years old. I keep them indoors, and never leave them in the plane (since they might get stolen and to avoid extreme hot or cold temps).

Is that a Bose X or a previous model being 2.5 years old?

I started off with Dave Clark, non-noise cancelling head set and switched to the Lightspeed 20XL. I have had it for about 4 years now, no problems. My only complaint is that it makes you look like Mickey Mouse with those huge ear cups. Several people have commented to me that they have had problems with Lightspeed products, but always receive a quick repair. I have never had any issues with mine.

In November of last year, I bought the Bose X headset and I am really enjoying it. Once you have experienced the ANR headsets, you never go back. I am taking advantage of the 12 monthly payment plan that Bose offers.

I have worn a lightspeed before, and I thought it was going to cut off my outer ears...comfort may be just a matter of preference, I guess. Sounds like it's time for some new ear seals...$15 for 2 or so. Bose says to replace them every year if you fly them hard.

Default New David Clark X-11

I own a pair of David Clarks, but the company provides Bose. I love the quiet of the Bose, and find them comfortable. Bose produces exceptional products.
However, I don't think they would go through hell and back like my David Clarks have.
If I were going to buy a headset, I would be really interested in trying the new David Clark X-11. They are a direct response to Bose, but DC tough has put some green dome brand loyalty in me.
Anyone here tried them yet?

I don't know, I'll have to pay closer attention now. Interesting to see other ANR users are having similar trouble.

You know your supposed to replace those every so often. The book recommends every 350 hrs, less if you wear glasses or have beard. I got 1000hrs out of mine last year, I thought they where fine, but Bose replaced them during warranty, I can live with that. I had problems with head sets with the standard DC ear seals squeezing my ears, which get really uncomfortable. No problem with the Bose ear seals.

Got the David Clark H10-13.4's and after about an hour and a half, it feels like I have a vice on my head. No need to replace them yet since im poor and in college...and since they work just fine...but I will in the future look for something more comfortable.

Well i went and tried a variety of headsets out, and the one i liked the best( that was in my price range) was the Lightspeed 23g. The fact that you can hook in an ipod for those cross countries made it sound pretty appealing to me. Of course the bose was the nicest but, for where i am in my training, im not sure i need to spend $1000 on a headset. Maybe in the future though!!! Thanks for the advice though

A captain I flew with had them the other day and liked them, but didn't seem too pleased with the Ipod plug-in...he was still doing the whole ear-bud-in-the-ear-underneath-the-headset thing, because he said that it cut out his Ipod too much. Other than that he had zero complaints. I'd like to try his on to compare it with my Bose sometime...

Strack...Good deal, you're going to enjoy that ANR.
