Instagram and pilots?

It is not just whether it violates regulations or not. How about not looking like a dimwit on the job? Sitting in the cockpit, sticking your tongue out and making goofy faces? Can you imagine needing a surgical procedure done and finding pictures of your Doctor standing in the operating room making goofy faces on an Instagram account? I'd find a new doctor. It just reeks of poor judgement and immaturity. Not a good combination for any safety sensitive position.
Also, different mindset based on when the pics are taken. Is the surgeon taking and posting pics in the operating room when a patient is knocked out laying on the operating table or just while standing in the room before or after? Is the pilot taking and posting pics while in the flare for landing or just in the cockpit before, during or after the flight?

Yes, it is narcissistic, some violate the FARs, and some would call it unprofessional. It is just another thing in pop culture that the majority of the pilot community does not understand or like.
Like most, I still don't get the Kardashians, but complaining about it for the last few years hasn't made them go away and these Instagram pilots will not care what a 50-year-old overweight white male on their second wife half way across the world thinks (yeah I know that is a generalization, but so is calling someone in their 20s an entitled narcissist because they took a selfie of themselves in the aircraft).
Personally, I cannot remember a time another pilot take an unprofessional selfie. I'm sure it has happened, but I must have gotten along with them and enjoyed flying with them, so that one minor irritation was forgotten by the end of the trip.
And one more thing. I'd be more concerned about the general public reading some of the posts on APC than I would about them seeing a pilot's Instagram account. As others have said, at least the Instagram accounts show happy pilots enjoying their job. I wonder what how doctors conduct themselves on their message boards.

When almost all pictures you post are of yourself, then it is about you first and foremost. Not about enjoying something, etc. It’s all about you and we get that. You are sharing you, not what you are doing. Positing ad nauseam selfies is just the current way to say; Look at me! Enjoying something does not mean you must insert yourself into each picture taken. Meh…some people just need the props I guess.

We've all done at least ONE selfie. Posted it online, etc. We're talking about the narcissists that take multiple selfies and photos of themselves. They're not just "enjoying their jobs and life." They have an attention ilness. PilotMaria is hot and all, but girlfriend is out of control. Next time she posts a handstand photo i'm going to use her as a vase.

Anyone who constantly posts selfies of themselves no matter what their profession has some issues. There's nothing wrong with an occasional picture, especially if it's in a cool destination or with long-lost friends or co-workers, but some of these guys/gals are too damn much.
Oh, and there's a differernce in a selfie and a moronic pose making a stupid face or flashing some hand signs. C'mon boys (and girls)....you're not a frat boy anymore. Jesus. It turns my stomach and inspires VERY little confidence to see someone I should look up to posing like an idiot.

Their "job" is lying to a bunch of kids for profit on IG by telling them to "follow their dreams", which means spending thousands of dollars to become dead-end contract MPLs in a dying job market. It's shady AF.
