I had no issue with southwest prior to seeing that picture. To mean it shows a lack of respect for your fellow aviator. I'm baffled that pilots/swapa would even allow something like that. Maybe that's the swa culture I don't know.

Shows lack of pono.

That was meant as a tongue in cheek motivator. If I am not mistaken, it was taken down after the PC police got wind of it and didn’t want to offend anybody.
Southwest has been doing the “California Strong” thing for a couple of years now. They saw a challenge coming, especially from Alaska to be the dominant “local” carrier on the west coast. It is a really big part of the last few years at SWA as they have moved a lot of capacity to that market. The Hawaii expansion is just a piece of that puzzle. Hawaii is the west coast vacation destination of choice.
You can throw around all the native Hawaiian terms that you want. It won’t change simple economics. People will bring their business based on price, service, and brand loyalty. Hawaiian has a lot of that wrapped up already and they do a lot of stuff that SWA cannot do and probably will never do.
Again, read my post above, it is whatever to me. I don’t get why so many people get so emotional over some perceived threat by pilots from other carriers. Pilots do not make the business decisions. We fly the airplanes.

I’m a little surprised, it’s just one slice of the data, but:

Wednesday, Sep 11 KOA-HNL

Flt 1039, 7:00am: 71/175 booked
Flt 1504, 10:00am: 132/175 booked
Flt 1458, 2:00pm: 97/175 booked
Flt 1470, 6:00pm: 52/175 booked

$49 seats still available for all flights. Maybe cheap seats and free bags aren’t enough?

I thought the shark was appropriate. From the sheer size of our prospective airlines to the market, let's face it, your entire airline is literally the size of one of our smaller domiciles and we have 11.

And you know what else? If I were at Hawaiian, I'd look at that picture and use it as a motivator: save gas, look to provide even better customer service, do small things for your customers individually, get myself in the mindset that we are the underdogs, embrace it and kick a$$ with it. Show the world how David beat Goliath.

Instead, we have a bunch of punanis running around screaming about how their feewings and okoles were hurt by a competitor's wall mounts. SMDH...

I'm not sure what attempted merger you are talking about, a little vague. Probably before my time gramps, why don't you enlighten me?

You can take your 11 bases in places I don't want to live and shove it, along with your condensending attitude.
I'll take my small ohana here at Hawaiian.

One of the biggest mistakes the public and our competitors miss when they see Hawaiian today is they miss that Hawaiian = Legacy Hawaiian + Aloha Airlines + Island Air + any other defunct local airline. Today Hawaiian management is largely old Aloha Airlines. If it wasn’t for a Hawaiian, mechanics, dispatchers, pilots and their families of those other carriers would have been displaced to the mainland or elsewhere. There is a large amount of sensitivity at Hawaiian because many of them already had their lives turned upside down before. This is not uncommon across the industry so one would expect a semblance of understanding and respect. Many were shocked by the shark regardless of whether or not that was just “locker room talk”. I’m sure the shark was only representative of a few and not most at Southwest. Still, why defend it?

Well when I sat in your jumpseat and had to listen to your pilots tell me the only way this swa expansion is going to go is buying us, or bleeding us into bankruptcy and then someone else buying us. I sort of take that as a threat. I know that's not the majority of pilots, but got to be some other with the same mindset.

A threat or a strategy. The only way I move up and having a better QOL is by people ahead of me dying, retire, or growth. Taking out competition is called business. Sitting around a campfire and kissing each other’s butts ain’t going to pay my bills.

Anyone who would say such a thing is classless at best and a tool at worst. Sorry about that.

More explaining than defending. I agree with your assessment. Also of note, there are a lot of old SWA pilots who by pure luck and happenstance were insulated from the upheaval of the industry in the lost decade. Not excusing their idiocy, just explaining. Kinda like me saying sorry about my racist great uncle.

The only thing left about Hawaiian is it's name. The rest is a front. I don't think the locals will notice/care much if we are bought out.

The locals are hoping Hawaiian gets squashed by Southwest. Little do they know, Hawaiian is one of the largest employers in Hawaii and contributes millions of dollars to the economy and taxes. But Hawaii people don't care. "Southwest Airlines, the official airline of the Hawaiian Kingdom."
