It was the fix cuz several new hires quit day one once they weren’t awarded 330 freight.
That's not an unreasonable approach. Especially in this day and age where most folks who can get hired by us can get hired by big 3.

Curious how they would choose to staff this. Either displacements or hire for growth… 🤔

I Interpreted it as the airframes would be based in Seattle but flown by Hawaiian pilots, not opening an HA Seattle base as was later reiterated.

My question is;
If a crew base is established, how many aircraft would determine a need for a crew base?

They absolutely already have a number in mind, and most likely know the general timeframe a 787 base announcement would be depending on the JCBA/SLI. (Also depending on Boeing)

I can't imagine the "plan" is to waste millions deadheading crews all around. HA tried that for the last several years and it didn't seem to work. Hence we got bought.

I agree, most definitely a SEA base after SLI. But it would take some time to get it ramped up and new pilots from the AK side trained. Post SLI, whether they have enough HA pilots wanting to go to SEA to staff the flying initially or end up deadheading or doing a TDY in the post SLI interim is anybody’s best guess.

he did say it, but it seemed more like an off hand example while commenting on something irrelevant to actual potential destinations. Do I think those two destinations are going to happen? Yes. Is his comment an indication that it is? No.
