Sun country merger?

Both airlines serve leisure travelers
That's about where the similarities end.
There is a reason ULCC carriers don't come to Hawaii. Minimum seat pitch with slimline and no recline seats (F9, NK, G5) do not come on a 6 hour flight to Hawaii. It didn't work for G5. WN flights are really pushing it but at least there you have recline and a regular seat.
While sun country is profitable the fleet types are different. It might work. But it's got to be a long ways off. I see nothing but pilot speculation.

I rode on sun country once. They served hot dogs, like boiling water containers full of hot dogs. I ate two. The whole cabin smelled horrible but there were glizzys so it wasn’t that bad. It’s safe to say it’s about the opposite cultures for airlines and if we had to merge I’d pray to baby Jesus it wouldn’t be sunny. I mean no offense

Thought it was Mesa? There will be another 330 Amazon operator and some point and they definitely won’t be merging. Defeats the purpose. I’d guess Alaska or JetBlue (if Spirit falls through), but not for another decade or so.

like Sam said… Sunny is different carrier now. Three different pitches in the cabin, closed loop wifi with movies and shows. In seat power. Free on board non alcoholic drinks. Food and drinks for purchase. Sunny did HNL from PDX, SFO, LAX for a few years prior to Covid for probably 4-5 months out of the year. CEO said possibly 2024 will be going back. I don’t think a merger between Hawaiian is likely. CEO said they were closer than they really wanted to be on getting that flying. Their focus now is on growing the 737-800/900 fleet in PAX growth. They have talked about wide bodies but that is a long ways out! The post Covid profits at Sunny have been some of the highest in the industry as far as percentages go. Not sure they are looking to buy. No offense taken!

In light of the JetBlue/Spirit merger, this leaves Frontier. I’ve heard that Barry (the CEO) comes in the new hire classes and boasts on the amount of cash they have and that they’re able to buy whomever they want…
