I've got called twice this week, and many times before that. I'm still on probation. First year pay is an absolute joke, even double time for first year pay still doesn't get me to put down the mai tai

What fleet are you on? What has your schedule been like so far?

The 330 first year guys or reserve pilots are called upon almost every reserve day. A lot of them are breaking over 75 a month now without accepting any recall or over 75 which you are almost guaranteed to get offered on your days off. Sleep with your phone on airplane mode when off to avoid being constantly disturbed from recall and over 75 flying calls at all times of the day/night.

Schedule wise you get 12 days off a month and unless you wave days off you will generally be reserve for close to a year except maybe holiday months when everyone drops or bids resv.

Is this true as well on the 717, a year of reserve and flying everyday on reserve? Also do you anticipate there will be many transitions off the 717 to move to the NEO when it comes this fall?

330. Both line and reserve. I've even got calls on GDO days for recall. I think the mentality of not working recall days is a little off key.
1. If nobody picks up a recall or double time trip, they just junior man at the bottom of the list. And the company will love that! Double time @36/hr! Yeah no thanks.
2. So if next year we don't have a contract still, and I need to supplement my income because I've been making poverty wages this year that's frowned upon???

Don't answer the phone. You have no duty or responsibility on your day off.
It is really not hard to ignore a phone call.
If no one takes recall, we'll have a contract next week because they cannot fulfill the daily flight schedule as it is.

Maybe I'm missing something, but you technically will have a TA next week, no?

Next month.
If no one flew open trips we would have had a TA a year and a half ago.

Guys like u (and there's a lot like u at HAL) are part of the reason why it has taken so long to get a TA. Accepting recalls on your days off completely undermines the little bit of leverage our NC & MEC have when negotiating across the table from management. You don't accept recall during section 6 negotiations, it's that simple.

Per your first point, your rationalizations (jr man the recall??) are not accurate. Don't answer your phone on your day off. The company cannot force you to answer your phone on your day off. Don't take my word for it, contact the contract clarification team.

With reference to your second point, you demonstrate your real motives, it's all about YOU....not UNITY. First year pay at HAL is unacceptable, I agree. Your not the first person in the industry to deal with inadequate 1st year pay. A lot of folks have had to go through 1st year pay in their career multiple times, but still behaved appropriately during section 6 negotiations. HAL did not recruit you. You applied and were hired. Own your decision.
