Now.....in my second retirement years I might need those POCs after all. If you remember the movie '7 Days and 7 Nights' with Harrison Ford; well that is what I want to be doing in my golden years
What kind of flying did you end up doing down there and what equipment did you fly? What kind of times did you have when you were hired?

If you want to work in Alaska then subscribe to www.flyalaska.com It is about $20.00 a year and has a wealth of information about flying in Alaska. I subscribed, sent 5 resumes and had 4 job offers. There you go.

What? There's flying up in Alaska???? LOL!
What are you looking for? Wheels? Ski's? Floats? What kind of powerplant do you like listening to? Radial? Opposed? Turboprop? One, two or more engines? You wanna live in a village or a town? On your dime or your companys? What kind of money do you want? If you want top dollar, then you'll have to be willing to give up a lot of things you take for granted....
Lots and lots of threads on the board about this here, and on other hangar boards, too. PM me if you have an idea of what you want to be when you grow up! LOL! I haven't figured it out yet, myelf!

Thanks for the offer but I needed those contacts 20 years ago! Others should be listening though and contact you if they need POCs rather than waste money, time, and effort like I did using that mailing list company.

for me, it's about the quality of life... I don't want to be another joe pilot going to the regionals having the same mundain life as everyone else. I want to do something fun and exciting thats a little off the beaten path... I'm only 21 years old, I want to enjoy my life while I can instead of sitting around in an airport all day on reserve.
pay isn't a huge deal to me, as long as I can make ends meat and have a little left over. main thing for me is the schedule, i love the 7/7 concept or 2weeks/2weeks, etc.... i'd obviously like something twin and/or turbine, but who doesn't?

I did accept a job in Southeast Alaska. It was awesome. Challenging flying. The lifestyle is very different in Alaska. Everything you do, everyone knows about it. I decided to try the Regional flying thing to make a first hand decision on what I want to be when I grow up. I have a pretty good idea what Alaska and the Regionals are like, now I can make an informed decision.
I don't understand the pay issue that many of you have. I made $44k first year flying a PA32 and later was offered $55k first year to fly a Islander with an increase to $66k second year. Compared to $20k first year at my Regional job, but I was flying a JET! Yippppeeeeee!

I have looked at a bunch of the other post about AK flying, but I was wondering if I could pick your brain abit.
Is there any possibility of getting hired in AK without some sort of mountain/AK time?
Currently I am working/living in the southern desert, will this hurt me?
I am not really that picky as far as what type of epuipment that I would fly, more interested in a stand-up outfit with a good history.
Anything you can provide would be helpful.
Thanks

I wrote an earlier post about my experience with trying to get a call from Alaska many years ago. One point that you made happened to me. When the guy I was talking to on the phone asked if I had any **mountain flying** experience and I told him I was from Oklahoma - I thought he was going to bust a gut laughing so hard! This was part of what prompted him to tell me to move to Alaska and get some experience. Now I'm not saying that you can't get the job othewise - but it was pretty evident what they thought of us LOWLANDER pilots
Hey - best of luck in your search. Bush flying in Alaska (or anywhere else) will more than likely remain one of those dreams that elluded me.

I am from the Desert Southwest and got a job up there.
Get AK time at a place like Wings of Alaska. Wayne is a good guy or LAB which isn't as good of an outfit, but in one summer you will have 500 hours of that golden Alaska Time!
Also, Hageland and Grant are looking for guys to fly the C207. Western Remote Alaska, but the pay is pretty good. www.flyalaska.com It's worth the price and no I am not affiliated.
