The Lears were definitely part of a political buy from the days of Dole as Sec of Transportation. Some of those that fly them like them. They seem to be a maintenance problem and are the costliest per hour to operate I'm told. The Mission Specialists don't like them and find the tech station uncomfortable. It wouldn't not seem to be a good platform for hanging out at 500-1500' for a few hours at a time - - but it does get you home quick at the end of a trip I hear! :)

Yes - a recent article spoke of a few rounds that one of the -601 took while flight checking in Iraq. Could have been a wedding celebration too! Wrong piece of the sky at the wrong time (big sky, little bullet theory failure)

The KAs are spread throughout the country except for the West Coast and sometimes a KA heads out for a two week trip to do some of the stuff that the Lears can't get done at the smaller airports.

Just curious if it is easier getting into okc vs another place. Okc for some jobs isn't as desirable, at least what I hear...

No - it isn't always easier to get into OKC than other offices.
There are a few people in the OKC office who took jobs at other FIFOs, and then waited for a spot to open up in OKC.
Whether you like it or not or consider it desirable is a personal preference.

Vacancy open

Time for a BUMP!

External and Internal announcements just hit the street today.

https://www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewD...8100#TopofPage

Good rumor mill has it that the Atlantic City FIFO is looking for 1 or 2 more applicants to fill positions in that particular office. This might actually be a chance for someone without Veteran's Preference points to get a foot in the door because I heard that they had already evaluated the potential pool of veteran's and still need that 1 or 2 positions filled
Of particular note - they are having trouble finding people who wish to stay in the KACY area, so if that area of the country appeals to you then it would definitely be a feather in the interview cap.

Here are the links for the FAA's own employment page containing both the External and Internal links to the announcements.

External announcement for a position in the KOKC office too.

Don't let the FG-2181 11/12 position scare you too much.
Note 4 states:

4) This is a developmental position. Position will be filled at the FG-11 or FG-12 with promotion potential to the FG-13 grade level without further competition. Identification of promotion in the vacancy announcement does not constitute a commitment or an obligation on the part of management to promote the employee selected at some future date. Promotion will depend upon the selectee meeting training, qualification requirements, and recommendation by the supervisor.

USMCFLYR,

Thanks for keeping this thread alive. A bit off topic, but with regard to ASIs...I'm retiring from the AF soon and I've just submitted everything for an Air Carrier Ops ASI posting that closed in May 2013. The questionnaire asks, 'which grade scale would you like to be considered for?' I answered GS-12...the announcement states GS-9/11/12. Would you recommend I change things? I'm a single-seat guy with about 2400TT (350 Light Civ), 1800 TPIC, 450 IP, 60 Eval and a background in FCF, training, school house, scheduling, stan/eval and training development.

Sorry to de-rail the thread, but looking for your advice.

Thanks...

I really don't know anything about the ASI jobs. I work with a couple of past ASIs and I know, as mentioned in this thread, that Flight Inspection has hired a few of recent, but I have no idea how bargaining for starting pay and such would go. I helped a guy get hired into an ASIP position in ACY a few weeks ago and he initially tried to bargain a high starting salary and additional leave accrual, but it was shot down. I've not heard of anyone getting hired on higher than what the USAJOBS.gov/FAA Employment website lists in the announcement as starting. Having not seen the particular announcement that you applied under, I would assume that the position starts at GS-9 with promotion potential to GS-12.

There are some informative threads on ASI jobs on the forum. I suggest that you use the search engine and search for 'ASI' in all posts, then pick the thread titles concerning the FAA ASIs jobs.

Good luck.
