American Eagle to hire
#42
50/50 shot of being off reserve, depends on the equip/base you want and how much hiring happens. If you do hold a line, it wont be a great one. After 2yrs in the right seat you might take home $2500/mo including per diem. Upgrades will be a loong wait. Do NOT come to Eagle unless you are prepared to sit in the right seat for 8+years. It might come sooner, it might come later. Nobody knows.

I have no affiliation with Eagle, but I just wanted to say, it doesn’t matter what airline is hiring right now, it’s the same crap in EVERY hiring thread.
Compass was hiring like crazy, tons of experienced guys lined up to work there, guys b!tching about the pay, flowback, etc.
Now, Eagle is hiring, it’ll be the same thing, tons of experienced guys lined up to work there, guys b!tching about the pay, upgrade time, etc.
In a few months, Colgan will start hiring, tons of experienced guys lined up to work there, guys b!tching about the pay, work rules, etc.
In a few monthsr, XX will start hiring, tons of experienced guys lined up to work there, guys b!tching about the pay, upgrade time, etc.
Get the drift? Do your own research on the airline, if you don’t like what you see or hear, don’t apply. Simple as that.

welcome to the new majors. it's stagnation everywhere. want movement? look at mesa - lot's of movement but not very pretty. someone has to make up the poorer half of the list. the obvious question: how long does it take to get half way with attrition as the only (no growth) factor? Most regionals are not expanding and many will be shrinking making that target of "half-way" even more elusive. AA will be hiring in our lifetime but AE is not the place to be if that is your goal. Why train twice when you can rob someone else for less??
The days of quick upgrades are gone, welcome to aviation where 1/3 of capacity has been shucked since 9/11 and most feel there is more to come. You may ask, why did the regionals experience growth in this period? Easy enough to answer, down guaging across the board. Now the number of airframes 50 seats and below no longer fit the economic environment and the move to larger equipment but not at "major" cost is the name of the game. Still a shakeout coming regarding that issue.
For AE the only question is: will AA retool AE with larger equipment (assuming APA scope relief) or does it contract it out? My money is on the latter. It is too expensive to retool when there are others that will do it and take the risk for you. The others will take the risk of aircraft obsolescence and like it w/o putting amr's balance sheet at risk. All the cheerleaders hoping for scope relief at AA need to wake up and smell the coffee. One list with all the flying is one thing but scope relief per se the way amr wants it is devastating for AE.

I am an IT professional and make more than most regional pilots... This is just for people hard up for cash or looking for a job...
Not that I'm happy with my job or anything, but just making a point...
And I hate to see anyone; especially hardworking professionals get taken advantage of. And as an outsider to your career - if my opinion still doesn't matter (that you guys should be paid WAY way more), then I'm sorry.

Big difference.

You're kidding right? I've been here for 2 years and had a line for 3 months while the senior FOs were transitioning over to the ATR. DON'T EXPECT A LINE. If any line it will be the standby line. With the latest VAC bid I still won't hold a line, and I'm in DFW!!! I love working here and everything is worth it, but don't get your hopes up, it still sucks sometimes. Like 0600 sign in for airport abuse lol. On the otherhand, I've gotten paid to watch a lot of movies this year. Just be reasonable, if you get the job here, thats all you got was the job. No seniority, and most likely a future of commuting for the first year. I wouldn't want to move to my first assignment, it can likely change. Good luck future FOs, I hope you have something in savings.
2 years from now people could be quitting SWA to come to Eagle (although I wouldnt count on it, haha!)
Also for those applying, the Eagle contract with AMR is up at the end of 2012. It is anyone's guess what will happen with the future of Eagle beyond that point.
That being said, Eagle is a good regional airline. It is far from the best, but far from the worst.

The whole damn industry is a crapshoot(hence the comment about it being 50/50). I was in the same boat as you; hired and spend 2yrs on reserve, then 6 months holding composite/rlf lines before getting a real line. The guys hired a few months before me held a line the entire time, go figure. The same has happened during this cycle, and I am sure you know guys a few months senior to you who are holding a line, or didnt get displaced 3 times, etc.

Good points. For those who have no experience they'll go anyways but for those of us with previous 121 it's a harder decision going to Eagle. I'm thinking of applying but already know too well the BS of reserve life from my previous airline and I really don't want to do it for 2 years or more. And I know that if I go to Eagle I'm going to have to settle for a possibly 10-15 year career there to get decent PIC time because I don't want to keep moving airlines and start over. I'm not crazy about the ATR in SJU either. Eagle is good for those that are starting fresh that maybe live locally at the domiciles that don't mind staying that long but for some of us it's a tough place to go.
Yes and VA,FL,CAL and Jetblue to name a few airlines that will take Eagle FO's
