Great Lakes Hiring?
#303
You don't get paid. You do get put up in a hotel in CYS with a roommate that is extremely small. Most likely you will be in the spot with the garbage truck banging the dumpster at exactly 6:44am. You are on your own for food, and you will find that you and everyone in the class will become very crafty on finding the cheapest food possible. Training for me was about 6 weeks, and I was in the first sim group. If there are a couple of weeks of sim then it could be longer. Furthermore, it depends on the flight training, because so many planes break that you could be sitting at a hotel at an outstation for a week+.

No pay during training AND $16 an hour after that. WHY in the world would you come here when Eagle is hiring 100's of pilots this year and their pay is WAY more than this? (I realize even Eagle's pay should be much higher, but it is what it is).
I'm seriously not trying to be a smart-ss or anything, or put ANYONE down, i'm job hunting just like everyone else, i'm just curious why someone would accept a job here when almost every other airline is hiring AND paying much more AND paying during training.

Quick upgrade doesn't mean anything when the majors aren't hiring. Or when you're competing with with thousands of very well qualified RJ captains with lots of jet pic time in their logbooks.
Go somewhere that you can stand (and afford) to be for a few years. Most likely you'll be there longer than you expected and there really is nothing to gain, career-wise, from going to Great Lakes.

Is it seriously $14400 per year pre tax? I really can't live on that. I'm making $33,800 plus hourly to instruct a bit and fly a 206 when called. In a year of being on call I've only had two nights away from home. I got the email today to come to DEN for an interview. I am 60 hours from 135 with only TT remaining to qualify.
I am thinking about bowing out and instructing a while longer. I can manage a fast food joint and make more money.
