Default UPS new-hires to MD11

July 7th class:

MD11 FO: 2
727 FO: 2
727 SO: 4

This is the first class with new-hires going to the MD11. A second July class is "very possible," with the final decision coming down soon.

The pool is confirmed being drained. "We will hire from the pool." Interviews per week have gone down from 16 to about 12.

It was noted that if they could hire more, they would. About 25/mo. max is what training can put through.

UPS is also looking for management pilots. Requirements are the same except for the 4,000 TT.

7,000 apps are in their database, including those that do not meet their minimum times.

Freight Dog,

Thanks for the update as well as the breakdown in the other thread! It is nice to hear this info, especially that the current idea is to drain the pool for new hires. Many have been in before me, some after, but it will be good to get everyone out and on line. Thanks again for the info, and good luck to all fellow poolies!

Default UPS Stuff

That is great to hear the pool is being drained. But about how many are in the pool still?? Also, they have been saying that the pool is going to be drained. With them still taking on interview, it still may be MONTHS! I try and keep my head above the water, but I have heard this before. If I have to forget about UPS while in the pool, I will believe it when the phone rings.

The pool isn't being drained to empty. The way they explained it was: They always want a pool of candidates ready to call to be ready to respond for any additional hiring requests from manpower planning.

That might not make sense since the training center is already running at full capacity. But it was emphasized to me again today that "being in the pool IS definitely a good thing. We hire now from the pool only."

It's still a competitive pool, but I gather that the days of getting placed in the pool and never seeing the light of day as a UPS pilot are over. If you do good enough in the interview and get pooled, the only question at that time is when you get a class date. Not if.

Speaking as likely the most senior in the pool, you will come out. I just did.

Jetpilot,

Happy to hear you got out. You had a long wait, a wait I pray I do not encounter. I say they should take all the people out who have been in the most time first and work that way. First in, first out. I wonder how many more people like you are still in. I hope none.
