That's OK...I taught pilot training for 3 years in the T-37...DC-9? It's all good!

Don't blow it.....they only give you one shot.

il0101 07-28-2010 05:44 PM

are they still offering classes to those interviewing? or is it over and put into a pool for next year?

acl65pilot 07-28-2010 06:31 PM

Offering classes unless you have been called and given an option.

Rogue24 07-28-2010 06:34 PM

Anyone over think that this is why the interviews have been canceled? ....

Rogue, interesting indeed. I noticed that there is talk of Alaska furloughing further this fall as well. Weird when they are making a profit.

jonesmt 07-29-2010 01:05 PM

All right, here's another # beneath you all! I just got cleared for the 6 Sep class too. Elvis, I'll see you there!

I was told that a bunch of us cleared today and more calls are going out. Good luck, everyone!

Please explain. I'm not understanding what you mean.

Congrats Jonesmt! When did you interview?

jonesmt 07-29-2010 03:22 PM

Thanks, everyone! I interviewed on 6-7 July. Head of New Hires said that he didn't know why the background checks were taking this long (3 wks), but a lot finally came through. I now know of 3 from our interview group that have been cleared.

tsquare 07-29-2010 03:30 PM

Welcome aboard :D It will be good to see new guys around campus.

Interview Today

I interviewed today, unfortunately did not get hired. With that said word from the horses mouth was that if we did get hired today odds are against us starting before next august 2011, and that was not a firm, it could be later. Reason was the October classes would be the last one and that more furloughs were returning than previously estimated.

FYI

Not trying to worry anyone just wanted to pass it along.

I seems that this hiring spree has not helped the junior folks at all. We might see 100 new hires total if that. Everyone on reserve will still be on reserve with no end in sight.

Well, 100-150 more guys on the bottom is better than 0 more on the bottom. If we can control the hiring so we don't need to furlough then all of us will be better off even if we are on reserve for awhile.

I still think there is something weird with the way they stopped so quickly that guys who had already interviewed are now not needed for a year. Something's up and I think that the MEC will be talking about that tomorrow. The Alaska conspiracy theorists have me wondering if we will be going through another SLI before next summer.

Man! New hires in the DC-9 again? That will be great for everything but my bank account. New hires pay for nodda....

Why would your bank account suffer? I thought Chuck Norris gave you his lunch money every day so you wouldn't kick his A$S......:D:eek:

That should be more than enough to buy the new guys a few rounds.....

Chuck has been avoiding me for years and I refuse to chase him. The next time I see him though, there will be a scuffle. Because, the dent comes from the lunches and/or the dinners. :D

Definition of "scuffle"-scuf·fle - n. when Chuck Norris gets backhanded so hard that it knocks the beard off his face.

I have heard the AS rumor heating up again as well. It seems to be hot and heavy in the training centers. I had one INS tell me that is why they stopped hiring so quickly. Rumor of course.

I called a few buds at AS and it is the typical when not if when it comes to DAL.

On a side note HI has gotten very attractive to a lot of airlines not that it has one of the four HND slots.

Would the government allow us to get that big through an M&A?

acl65pilot 07-30-2010 05:37 AM

FtB;
Depends. If AMR goes after AS I assume we would have a compelling case for the government. See AS does the Lion's share of our feed to our Asian gateway flights in SEA, and PDX, and they do a bunch in LAX. Without them those routes would have issues. To me that is the biggest reason DAL has.

HI is a small operation and there is little they could do about that one, but try to take the HND slot. I am sure that the lawsuit over the LGA slots will determine the outcome of DAL going after HI. (Just my guess)

I also read on the forums somewhere that ALaska is shifting a bunch of flying OUT of LAX to PDX and ANC.

TYG

acl65pilot 07-30-2010 07:37 AM

TYG that is correct. It seems they are going to grow PDX and shrink ANC and LAX

My CA on newhire OE would not let me buy a single thing. Not even coffee. I felt like a free loader, but at $30.08 an hour I wasn't complaining. :o

BTW, newhires will he going to the 320 in MSP/DTW. Both fell 50+ FOs short of the 22.D.3 on the Dec 2010 projected category list.

Elvis90 07-30-2010 09:54 AM

I'm in the Sep 6 class hoping to go to MSP in any a/c...hoping that can happen.

ERJF15 07-30-2010 11:25 AM

I don't know if this has already been asked, but how long is the interview process? Does it take a day?

I think there is a good chance of that happening. If it doesn't happen in class I think you can get to MSP fairly quick, probably within the first 6-9 months. It's possible you may get to participate in the next AE. I'm hearing it may be as late as October. An AE is Advanced Entitlement, and gives you the opportunity to switch aircraft.(if there are vacancies and you can hold that vacancy) Last I checked there are a lot of slots in MSP 320 and MSP M88.

I believe it is 2 days in length.

johnso29 07-30-2010 11:40 AM

Does anyone know if any July 14/15 interviewees have received the 'Cleared to Train' call?

Thanks for the advice.

Ralphie 07-30-2010 03:57 PM

Look hard at the MD. You'll hold a line sooner than you ever will in the 320. Even though there are vacancies in both, migration will eventually take place to the more desirable airplane. Don't let all the round dials and crazy flows scare you.

Tumbleweed 07-30-2010 07:53 PM

How about the DC9? What are the available bases for that? Is it pretty junior?

I hope you're right. I want people to get off this thing and they keep bidding into it.

The Flight Ops Comm said they will hit a major milestone this week with the completion of all interviews for the 2010 hiring push. They have chosen over 170 candiates from over 5000 applicants. First class of bypass pilots is Monday, first new hire Aug 16th, two new hire classes each month for a 3 month period with all of the 2010 hires hitting the line by 1Q 2011.

acl65pilot 07-30-2010 08:36 PM

FtB;
No idea. Just commenting on someone earlier post. We have been talking up AS for years.
We get all the milk for free so it would just cost money to buy her. If someone else wanted to purchase her, we could not let that happen. No more no less.
