It's not that I have already have a appt letter from them, I got interested because of the west coast & looking at the website posted minimums.
No one is going to be at regionals for ever, my problem is I am at the low end of minimuns, so far QX is on the lowest posted minimuns I have seen.
That is why I started this thread to get info from current Junior FO's & senior guys at Horizon.
How much flying do U get per month on an average, or let's see in the last 6 months how much has any junior FO has done.
What is the pay like as compared to others
Someone said something abt a 2 yr training contract, do U know how much is that for....

Horizon Air is a career killer. Miserably long days. Punishingly slow progression. Unreal trip lengths. It is where my dream died. Do not go there.
When I flew for Horizon Air we had mostly overnights and day trips. I had one bid where I had three day two overnight trips. Now you are flat gone for five days. Yuk...
I would rather deliver the mail...

I believe the training contract is 2 years and 8,000 dollars. We will probably not be hiring anytime soon so our hiring minimums don't matter much. We will be down to 48 aircraft with over 600 people on our seniority list. At least a third of QX captains have no carreer aspirations beyond flying the Q400. If attrition does not pick up I'm guessing that there will be more furloughs by next fall. If that doesn't change your mind remember too that many airlines don't rate turboprop time very highly; many will hire you with turbojet SIC but give no respect to props.

Turbine is turbine and turbine PIC is turbine PIC. 50 seat turboprop or a 50 seat RJ...doesn't matter. I doubt they value the guys turning the autopilot on at 200 feet and off at 200 feet over the guys that are flying in the weather doing hand flown VOR and ILS approaches vs RNAV approaches with the autopilot.

First the only place that turbine vs. Jet time matters is overseas. And if you don't have time on type it doesn't matter anyway.

You're not listening. If you don't want to be at a regional forever you need to log PIC time to move on. Currently at horizon it is 12-15 YEARS to upgrade to captain to start logging PIC time so you can move on. Keep building hours and apply to SkyWest if you want to be base on the west coast. You'll eventually upgrade there and be able to move on.
I will refer to this post in 3 years, at that time more than 50+% of the majors will be taking guys with no PIC time, mark my words. It started to happen in 2008 before the industry downturn, it will happen again. I bet 3000TT with 2000 Turbine SIC or PIC and you will get interviews.
FWIW I am a former QX FO who never upgraded and moved on in 2008.

Completely wrong IMO. I have been advising everyone I know trying to make the jump to a regional that it doesnt matter where you go, just go if you can survive.

Some of the better, yes I agree. I am not sure Fedex, UPS, or Southwest will drop that requirement. But companies like Delta already don't require Turbine PIC time. However I am a realist and know you have to stand out in other ways. I am one of the guys that believe that outside of another economic meltdown we will see a shortage of pilots in the coming 5 years take full swing.
