If we're lucky, next winter! Seems mgt is content with understaffed for summer to avoid over staffed in the fall.

That seems a lot longer than folks expected. What about extra capacity due to Comair drying up? Delta is cutting back 140 airframes the next couple of years according to the WSJ and that will affect ASA. But couldn't ASA pick up some of the lost business due to the DA reduction in capacity?

Delta is cutting 200 flying. Not replacing it with more 200s. Why would they do that?

I haven't heard anything on additional ASA new-hire classes, but on the ExpressJet side we will continue to hire 32 per month for the rest of the year. My advice to you is to take the first class they offer you. Eventually we will all be the same company, but until then, I wouldn't wait around for an ASA class if you could be accruing seniority already and get off reserve sooner.

Hey Meyers - do you mean they are cutting back on the crj200 flying, if so, you may be headed in a different direction than i was thinking. Please elaborate.
I was taking a long shot on the hopes that while DA is cutting back on it's mainline capacity by the airframes i mentioned (supposedly 4% total including some atlantic routes) there still would be some demand that ASA could pick up where routes somewhat coincided.

Driver - yup, that's good advise. But i'm having to stay close to ATL due to family, funds, etc. Besides, with the big upcoming "pilot shortage", hopefully the lost seniority won't have too much impact - some tongue in cheek, there. That's a whole new thread.

I think the fall reduction and possible developments on the United scope issue are forcing ASA's staffing needs. I am not optimistic for xjt/asa keeping every current airframe flying into this time next year. This mainline reduction due to a weak economy and high fuel prices might delay mainlines from hiring. They are gambling that we will be properly staffed come the fall but even if we are not they will just roll days off, reassign, or cancel the flights and blame it on pilots anyway. It is a win win for them.

We haven't given them (management) a good enough of a reason to staff this place properly.

This is a slight tangent, but how does the ERJ compare to the CRJ200 in terms of economics? If some of the older CRJs are being parked, is it safe to assume that some of ExpressJet's E145s will be parked too?

Is there flying that ASA and ExpressJet could lose this fall from United and Delta?
