Default Alaska on APC

Are there still "43 involuntary furloughed pilots remaining" per Airline Pilot Central? Just askin' since the Alaska Air page on APC was last updated over 3 months ago.

Yes. They start coming back Aug 1st at a rate of about 8 per month.

All will be back by January 31. For the first group that was furloughed, it will end up being just a little over 3 years since they were on the property. Interviews and hiring is supposed to start by the end of this Fall for classes late Winter / early Spring next year. Our system chief pilot is working on getting the Silver Bullet program going again, since he believes there's a lot of merit to it. Hopefully HR will go for it.

More letters went out the last two weeks. There have been 4 bypassers for recall. There is supose to be a big hiring meeting in a month to determine all of the different stuff: interview style, minimums, how many from QX in each class,ect....

That may be great for those that know someone that is at Alaska Air. Some of us do not, and are not currently 121, which is not a + when looking at the Silver Bullet Program.

Dakota Kid,

I would suggest going to job fairs and getting face time with people at the Alaska booth, when they start attending these fairs again. That's a great way to get called for an interview. I know a lot of people (including myself) who got called for an interview this way.

Good luck!

What are the chances of ever getting looked at without the PIC time? I am at a regional that is so slow to upgrade that I have a good amount of time just no PIC. I have two family members that are captains with Alaska and a good friend of the family is a check airmen. I assume in a few years airlines will start to drop the PIC requirement when they can't find qualified people but I was just wondering about the near future. Dare to dream I am sure.

Could someone please post how the new retirement system works? I know there is no more A-fund for newbies. Is it a 401k program only? Is it a B-fund, or a combination?

Also, what about medical benefits? How much? Are they comparable to other airlines?

Junior base? PDX, SEA? Junior trips? Are they ANC red-eye turns in the winter and Mexico in the summers?

Interested in going to AS.

14,000TT, 2 types, 5,000TPIC, 1,500 B737 SIC, 1,000 Part 135 in Alaska.
