sounds just like the disfunctional company it is. Talk about management not having a clue. How can you hire but not have any classes planned. Tough situation if youre in the pool with them.

The poolies were called for a January 9th class. Not sure how big though.

They will bid for A/C in indoc. There will more than likely be a permanent bid for March coming out next month and that will probably tell if they get the 190 or the Bus. The last class from September got the Bus. The 190 is fat right now.

How was the interview with US Air? I was not called (surprise surprise) but have been looking at USair for some time. I figure, if I'm going to get screwed at an airline, I might as well have the opportunity to fly the A330! Any info with whats happening there for future hiring?

Many major airlines hire people into a pool without knowing exactly when they will have a class for them- including Southwest, Jet Blue and Atlas to name a few. The last time they hired in '07/'08, they told people an approximate hire date, and many of those people quit their jobs in anticipation of starting, only to learn that their class was cancelled- for three years! Perhaps US Airways learned their lesson from that and are hesitant to give people false hope. Please note, they did honor all the poolies from '07/'08 eventually, even saving spots for those that needed to finish contracts they had signed for jobs they took while waiting for a class date.

A friend of mine told me that the flight department wants to hire approximately 300/year for at least the next three years, but they haven't gotten approval from the accounting people yet to do so. It's well known that there are many retirements looming, but there is also the chance of a merger which may complicate hiring plans. Who knows? They do estimate resuming classes around March of next year, so it's a good guess to say that anyone in a pool right now could expect to go to training sometime in the early spring. There is also much speculation that they will be getting the ten E-190's that they gave to Republic back sometime in the next year or so, which may necessitate more hiring as well.

Hope this helps.

Everyone had heard 2nd quarter for hiring, but then they just called the poolies for 1/9/2012 class. Now if there's a gap between that class and the 2nd quarter hiring is yet to be seen.
