TACAMO,

Another question: It seems that all of the listings for jobs posted on the crew leasing sites require a type rating, even for FO. I have 737 time (4 years ago), but no 747 or other heavy. Did you have some experience prior to JAL?

hhyflyt560...

Sorry for the delay in response. I'm out on a 7 day trip and my laptop crapped out. I've got to make this short for now. Yes, I did get a B-707 Type Rating and added a B-737 Type after my stint in the Navy. Not having a 747 Type Rating will not be a problem. All you need is a Type Rating from a Transport Category Aircraft (2 member crew). Most of the candidates in my class had a 737, RJ and a couple had 75/76 Types. The B-707 Type would have sufficed for JAL (JalWays), but at that time, I was applying around here in the US (SWA etc.) and thought that the 737 would come in handy at that time. I'm glad you didn't submit your application with WASINC, I was just flying with a leg with a pilot from WASINC, and he wasn't happy with their management. Give Bruce Mount a call at HACS and talk to him, he'll give you a good idea where you would fall into line with them. Anyway, got to go, any questions, please ask.

I don't suppose a Citation 500 type counts or a smattering of turboprop types?!

hyflyt560.. I asked around, your Citation Type will count in this case. I would suggest contacting Bruce Mount at HACS to make sure though.

Default New to board

Hello everyone, I am new to this website and have found it very interesting and informative. Seems like we have quite diverse and worldwide interests in here.
I have read your posts TACAMO, and since I am also considering going out overseas, I'd like to ask if you would post some more information regarding Jalways specifically. I have read what you have put in, but was wondering if you would elaborate a bit more on family issues. I also would appreciate anyone else's input with regard to overseas jobs. I am just wondering about the ability for family passes, quality of life for the wife and kids, cost of living (to put in perspective with the pay).
Thank you in advance for any time spent on my request.
B737 driver.

Hello Tacamo, I am thinking of leaving my regional to go fly out to the east with J-ways. After doing a little searching I stumbled into your comments in this thread. Since I just set up an ID here they will not let me PM you. Could you PM me? I would really appreciate a look "from the inside", and will of course honor any requests for privacy that you may wish.

Thanks V1rotate

I'd like to know about more of the contract difference between WASINC and HACS. I have an interview with the former coming up in March, and am concerned about your comments. Please try and PM me (I don't have access) and we can exchange more info. Thanks.

V1rotate: I tried the PM and it didn't work. Anyway, Fly4hire started a Jalways thread, so I'll keep a lookout there for your questions. I posted (along with several other members) comments about Contract Flying in Japan on the "Southern Air versus Contact Flying" thread in the Cargo Forum section last month. It got pretty crazy on the the thread, but lot's of good honest information.
