Eagle Pipeline Announcement
#21
As SkyWest continues to prepare for more changes in our industry, including 1) the mandated Airline Transport Pilot license required to pilot an FAR 121 operated aircraft, 2) the new rest rules that will take effect next year, and 3) the out flux of retiring pilots from a variety of major airlines combined with the robust draw of airline pilots from international carriers, we are pleased to once again become a leader with initiation of a pilot bridge program. This program provides a unique opportunity to help prepare our future pilots and coworkers – creating a “Bridge” for aspiring pilots to be mentored for their future as professional aviators, especially at SkyWest Airlines.
The SkyWest Pilot Bridge Program is a coast-to-coast effort to mentor our future aviators in a number of ways. We are joining forces with a number of Aviation Colleges, Flight Academies, State Colleges and Universities, as well as Flight Schools who are already providing exceptional pilots to our pilot group, to help aspiring pilots become what more than 3,200 other pilots at SkyWest have become professionally.
The first of these “Bridge” agreements came last week with SkyWest Airlines partnering with McAir Aviation, located between Denver and Boulder in Colorado. We look forward to working with this program and believe it will be the first of many opportunities.
So what is SkyWest’s “Bridge” program all about, and what sets this apart from other gateway programs used by other regional carriers?
First of all, the SkyWest Recruiters/Interview team will have the opportunity to meet with many of these programs throughout the year to directly associate with and mentor aspiring pilots.
The team will sit on advisory councils associated with colleges and academies to provide industry insight and curriculum suggestions for adaptions that will better prepare their pilots to sit in our aircraft as professionals.
The SkyWest Bridge Program enables us to offer an Enhanced Internship Program (EIP) to flight instructors who work for these schools. The EIP will allow these interns to promote SkyWest within their own schools, at job fairs and at high school career days. In return for their efforts, SkyWest Airlines will be able to offer the interns flight benefits on SkyWest aircraft! The interns will also be given a date of hire and maintain their company ID throughout the program, which will continue when they are brought into an initial ground training class.
While visiting the varied aviation programs throughout the country and mentoring these pilots, the Interview team will also conduct mock interviews and will provide career council and direction to promote the Attitude, Professionalism, and Leadership found among the ranks of SkyWest pilots.
These efforts will not only prepare pilots for a Final interview at SkyWest, but will also engender safe, efficient and professional pilots to join the future ranks of those we associate with on a daily basis here at SkyWest.

Before being in the program, they will have to pass interview at Eagle and then with the flight school.
They will get a salary, free medical and travel benefits from Eagle. They will be able to NonRev in AA and AE, also Zed in One World, like any AME employee. Now their pilot seniority will start once they start eagle training.
They will be Eagle employees, but CFIing until they get the time.
Is not a misinterpretation, is the facts.

The facts are, Eagle is a dying airline. I would recommend Silver, CommutAir ect... To a CFI over Eagle just because the ground is too shaky there.

SAPA... It's our own in house union which does a great job. Plus, we don't have Union Reps using funds inappropriately as compared to Eagle.
Also, we have never furloughed, thankfully. ALPA, Teamsters, SAPA, only protect you so far. Don't get caught into the trap of ALPA. ALPA is a business. At least with SAPA you're not paying dues and get the same representation you would with a MEC. Just my .02

No ****, eagle also fly to Canada and Mexico. But I don't think you can go anywhere else in the world in a CRJ or EMB.
So if a CFI wants to go to Europe, Asia, Australia or anywhere else in the world they can with AA or any OneWorld partner.
I'm not saying that eagle is better than Skywest or Skywest is better than eagle.
Also remember that AE captains are flowing to AA and once AA starts hiring they have to take at least 20 of our guys a month.

Bottom line advice to CFI's... Take a long look at the product being offered. What kind of fleet plans are in the works, are they growing or shrinking? Base structure, How many mainline partners are they providing feed for ect....
Don't get caught up in the "flow up" who's to say the airline won't further shrink with flow ups? And that's not a jab at Eagle but all regionals with "flow up". The day of the 50seat is coming to an end. OO has firm orders for 100 MRJs with options for 100 more. There's substantial rumors of 170's coming online. Either way we have a fleet plan... Take a long look at who you feel will provide better stability and QOL whether its OO, Eagle, Silver or Great Lakes. This is the only job that demands as much luck as it does skill to have a successful career.

And now for something completely different ....
I interviewed today, and got the preoffer from Eagle. Pretty darn sweet in the eyes of this 775 TT CFI.
Now just a background check, a captains board review, another interview (at a flight school), and a bunch of hard work, and I will be flying jets!! Woohoo
Just felt like posting here since I heard of this deal on this post.
To clear up some things...
Yup, my paychecks would say Eagle on them
Where will the students come from??? China, Malaysia, etc... This is already the case at most large US 141's, which is its own problem(?).
The eagle interview is the same as for FO's, I was in there with FO applicants only, and our notes compared. Also, lined up with the willflyforfood gouges pretty darn well.
Ill update on here occasionally
The best thing I can say is that I know there is still a lot of hard work between me and an airline career, but at least now there is a PATH that I am on. This is a lot more than I could have said 3 weeks ago.

Knowing that you went through the exact same interview as an airline pilot should boost your confidence and has probably reinforced your belief that you can and will make the airlines a career.
Again, my hats off to you!
