One note I would add to anyone making career choices in the near future - don’t make big plans based on today’s information. I got sidelined for 9/11 and the Great Recession. You can’t predict the future in this industry. Go back a couple of pages on any thread and the info is stale.
Here at QX, I’ve seen Q400 and E175 flight hours flip flop in a matter of 3 months. Unless you’re management, you likely won’t see it coming. If y’all have a CJO in January, I’d take it. The Q will make you a better pilot, and if you want a meal at FL350, upgrade into the E.
That said, at the moment things look great for Q FO’s wanting to build time fast. But from a commuter’s standpoint, I’d steer clear of a 2 leg commute unless you make the big move.

Oh, you meant the Qdoba you went and got from all the way over in the A gates on your quick turn in Seattle. Gotcha.
Heck, it’s almost ozone season again, so we won’t even be allowed up to FL350 pretty soon.

A meal at FL350? At QX? You mean once a month, but only if the flight attendants don’t eat the leftover First Class meals first?

May it quickly change as you state. But for someone a January '19 hire or later, more than a tad underwhelming.

???? For those over a year and a half in (and hopefully a line/near a line) perhaps. Current junior FOs at SEA / PDX? The high timers perhaps 300 in a year and those stuck on airport reserve (for 3, 4, 5...8 months), the flying is essentially non existent. No big if there was/is movement/progression...but currently nada for SEA/PDX.

Results for January are out (zero moves shown into PDX or Seattle again). SEA had 52 FOs in July, 34ish in January. Zero movement in, in that time (base is going to be SMALL with as few Q lines as they are running and obviously trying to attrit to).
PDX had 76 FOs in July, 68 in January. Only 3 back filled in that time. That is TERRIBLE movement too.
7 new hire FOs sent to BOI / MFR...
Captains-one of the captains on here can correct/modify, but I’m still seeing holdouts. 6 Q FOs (one a DEC) upgraded for Q left seat in January. I see two Q FOs going jet for January. There are quite a few senior FOs to many of these upgrades waiting on something (perhaps a call from another mainline that isn’t AS...?) No matter, just understand that if you come in as a DEC on the Q, you are looking at a year (at least) on airport. Then again, some FOs aren’t too far behind this timeframe for airport either.

Got a CJO for the Q with a class date in January and requested Spokane as my base because they said the Q pilots there are the busiest. If I want the jet instead I need to let them know very soon and those class dates are closer to end of spring (May). They seemed optimistic that there would be more flying available for Q FO’s on account of the new Q400s they are adding and it sounds like people are finally starting to get upgraded to the ERJ from the Q.
I am a California native who will be commuting from the Bay Area for the first few months while my significant other sees if she can land a job up here (she will know by March most likely). If that doesn’t work out I may be stuck commuting for the foreseeable future from the Bay... I also have an interview soon with SkyWest, but their class dates are June/July.
My questions for you guys: 1) I want to fly as much as I can, ERJ or Q? 2)Does 5 months of seniority matter since I just want the most flight time? Q might be the high risk, high reward option: I start sooner, but would also start before I know I’m moving up here. If I request ERJ I could just play it safe and choose Horizon or SkyWest based of off where I end up living. 3) how difficult is the commute from the bay to Spokane or even for that matter from Seattle to Spokane.
Thanks for any and all help - AP.

If you definitely want Seattle, I’d bid for the jet.
As far as upgrade prospects, the jet is becoming more senior. People are struggling moving from the jet to the Q. In the Q, there are more upgrade classes and less competition, but it’s a lot to take on. You may be able to upgrade as soon as you get your time, but you might not feel ready.
Yes, there is a little more flying on the Q relative to the start of the year. Nearly all of it is in WA/OR with average segment lengths ~40 mins.
It’s a lot to weigh, but I’d sacrifice a few months of seniority or a few hours/month for better quality of life. You’ll get there either way.

Hello, I'm looking for some current info on the latest CA upgrade awards by seniority on both the Q and 175. Ive been seeing/hearing a lot of conflicting information from both here on APC and from a phone call with a recruiter. TIA
