Recruiters will tell you what you want to hear, especially at Horizon.

Default CA Upgrades on the E and the Q

As far as I can tell on the bid, it appears that the Q upgrade classes are not filling, i.e. street captains are still a "thing." The E175, however, is currently around the 2.5 year seniority mark. These things have fluctuated a ton in the last couple of years.

So by the time you read this, apply, interview, get a CJO, report to the schoolhouse, pass the sims, complete OE and hit the line, there's one thing you can bank on - the time frame will change.

For the Feb-2020 bid, 3 out of 4 E175 CA vacancies went to Aug-2018 hires (the 4th went very senior). The E175 CA vacancies have been holding pretty steady at about 2.5 years.

Q400 CA vacancies still aren't being completely filled, as has been the case for almost two years. Typically about 25% of the Q400 CA vacancies go unfilled every month.

My opinion is that I'd expect this to continue to be the case for a while. In reality, they probably need to open up the E175 CA vacancies further, but it seems like they are afraid to discourage people from upgrading into the Q400. Even if the E175 does speed up, I wouldn't expect it to get under 1.5 years for the next 2-3 years, based on the number of pilots hired in the 2017-19 timeframe.

Thanks, I made a typo. It should have said Aug-2017 for the E175 CA awards. Corrected below.
