Here's the report that I got back about today's interviews. I don't know how yesterday went...

8 interviewed. 4 were hired. Of the 4 hired, 3 of them had previous 121 experience (Piedmont, Pinnacle, Big Sky). The other was an instructor that had more than the required minimums.

The 4 that were not hired were UND instructors. I don't know how much time they had.

Word is that horizon was willing to take as many candidates as they deemed "hireable", with excess candidates being put into a pool for a later class date (currently undetermined).

The next class is on October 8, and will be for the CRJ. Can't remember, but there will either be 6 or 8 new hires, and I believe that the class has been filled.

Default Horizon Air

If Horizon Air is what a good job is supposed to be then I would rather work for the post office.

During my time there I wasted away in the right seat for years while earning $492 every two weeks. Every day you sit on the right is a lost day in terms of your career. It doesnt matter how much the pay is or what kind of work rules you have the regionals are a dead end. The only thing that matters is how fast you can upgrade and if it is in an RJ or not.

Horizon Air is a career killer. If you are satisfied with reaching post office wages in 10 years and spending your life grinding a path between SEA and PDX then you have found your home.

Occasionally flight students excitedly tell me that their "flight instructor just got hired at Horizon"! I always tell them that mine did too and they are still there. A few get out but not many.

Gotta start somewhere if you want pursue your goal as a professional pilot. Everybody starts being an FO somewhere unless you have the military jet time and get lucky enough to get picked up by Majors after getting out. I don't know anything about Horizon so I can't comment what the QOL is like at Horizon.

It is good to get balanced opinions, however, so I appreciate where Skyhigh is coming from. Looks like Skyhigh did not like his time at Horizon.

Pick a better place to start.

If you are under 25 and a new hire at QX you might reach 1000 Turbine PIC by the time you are 35 as a Horizon Air pilot.

My point is that I don't care how much money you make or what days you have off if you can not upgrade within a few years then you are doing yourself no good. Right now there are guys who are in their early 20's and are RJ captains. If your goal is to make it to the majors then you will need to keep up with the other guy.

For most, Horizon Air is a dead end.

SKyHigh

And yes I am very disapointed with QX.

No, I did not like my time climbing the ladder.

My career goal was Alaska Airlines and those other jobs were in my way. Each day spent at a lower rung job was another day that separated me from my dream and another day that made me older and less likely to reach my dream.

Every first day in ground school at a new job was mostly spent daydreaming about the day I would quit and move on to the next one.

Some might consider that attitude as negative. I however see it as highly focused, motivated and goal oriented.
