Default Horizon outsourcing jet flying?

Hey Horizon folks,

I was catching a ride from PDX to SEA last week (btw, thanks for a lovely ride home) when an Alaska captain (who was also riding along) mentioned something about Horizon wanting to continue offering jet service but considering outsourcing this to another regional.

I'm sure the pilot group would fight this kind of thing tooth and nail, but has anybody heard of this in the rumor mill?

Horizon jet service is essentially already an outsourced product... can outsourced flying be outsourced even further. This industry can be retarded at times.

That's what I was thinking. I figured that if they go to a one-type fleet (Q400), some of the CRJ flying would end up at Alaska and any routes that didn't fit in with the Q400 or Alaska mainline would end up getting eliminated.

I don't see profitable routes being eliminated...that is of course, unless we are speaking of United!

hahaha! Funny.

That, of course, it what I meant by "any routes that don't fit in."

Horizon is seeking another contract for the CR7. The ultimate goal is for a all Q400 fleet. This I think has been brought up on the board before. The F9 flying was the only thing that ever happened good for the CR7 at Horizon. Alaska Air Group as a whole is pinching every penny they can right now, and ridding themselves of the CR7 or contracting them out right now is the only real options with the jet to not lose money with it. The Q400 can do just about every mission the CR7 can with the obvious money savings.

This is what I was going to point out, you beat me to it. From what I am hearing, there is very little flying that will go away with the CRJ, almost all of it will go to the 400. San Fran being the only one that I can think of off the top of my head, because they don't want any turboprops there, although I am willing to bet that they are going to fight for an exception.

I think that more cities will be lost with the 200 than the CRJ due to runway lengths and TSA requirements.
