The new proposed system handcuffs us and diminishes the amount of weekly vacations and overall sick bank for flexibility...

Such crap.
This is true. And I've never sold back any time off.

This is true, but it also has built in protections. Such as if you have a chronically ill child or spouse and can't get your PTO bank above 100 and sell back was never an option. (FMLA)Then even if you bid vacation, by the time sept and oct come around your bank is hovering in the teens. Vacation is eliminated. This protects planned time off with pay. Now you're not punished for using your PTO if you must.

Unfortunately not everyone has the options. This is gonna affect everyone different.

Personally, I'm with you, I'd like the big bank.

I’m so sorry to hear about your little person….I can’t imagine how hard that must be. I do hope the new system helps you….helps all of us.

I'm sorry, that's not how I meant it to come off, my kids are fine wife is good! There are those of us that have those issues. I'm lucky enough not to be one of them.

I never wanted it separated, but there were many who did. If we were privy to the survey results, I'd bet that a majority wanted the split. Many threads on BP regarding PTO over the past years showed that most of the posters wanted the split.

I always advocated for upping the accrual rate, but keeping it all in one pot.

Ah, good to hear. But yes, other people do have these situations and I hadn't really thought of that (because normally I just think of ME )

Not if you’re being scrutinized for DEPENDABILITY when you decide to use your discretionary PTO. Need a CBA so we can ink this stuff in fellas. No rules. They win.

Im with you- I wanted a split. Now I get 2 weeks paid and can use the pto monthly to get an extra day.
I understand the broader argument, but the split is prob what the survey indicated.

My favorite part about our current PTO system is.... when I get sick, because well the other person didn’t want to call in sick... because well why would I do that when I can sell it back at 150% when I get to above 100.....

Sooo however I do not agree with two weeks of vacation for 0-9 years. I will say, if we could go back to the table and come up with something else keeping the banks separate we would see a lot more people calling in sick when actually sick. I’d rather call in for a trip with straight time sell back.

A CBA fix's nothing in this respect. The reserve grid will still be red, so to use your "discretionary" PTO you will need to call in sick. Back to the dependability policy which is often not codified in a CBA or in some cases it is.

Our current dependability policy is not terribly onerous by airline standards, so if we codify it in a CBA, I don't expect it to change much. Commuter policy may get better however.

Old system literally gave you about the same amount of total time off as the new system, but you could choose to use all your weeks for vacation or all your weeks for sickation or mix. New system gives the same time off, but limits how you can use it.

We traded the flexibility for more summer week availability. Not a judgement on the AIP, just a compare and contrast.
