That would be a violation of seniority and the CBA. They bid off the airplane for whatever reason.

For someone who is starting class soon, a couple questions about bidding during the first week:

- Do you bid for aircraft type, base, or a combination of both? (ie., could number 1 be BOS A320, and then number 2 be BOS E190, and then number 3 be JFK A320..etc?)
- How quickly after that bid do you find out your assignment?
- Assuming I don't get first choice of domicile, is the process smooth to later transfer bases when spots become available?
- Getting specific, what's the likelihood of getting LAX awarded straightaway? (assuming it's not great, but just throwing it out there)

TIA

Glad JetBlue is continuing to hire.

They give you a list of specific options of base and aircraft available and you number your list. LAX is pretty unlikely, there have been only 4 slots in the past 6-9 month as the LAX FO list has shrunk a bit (you can look back through the class drops listed here.) You find out the same night you bid, I think it is the day or second day you show up. If you want LAX though definitely try to get on the 320. Base trades can be requested once done with IOE, but there has to be someone who wants to trade. After that it would be up to the yearly summer bid.

-You bid your choices based on what's available. For my class, we were provided a list on the Monday before class. Class started on Tuesday with a mixer with some Captains - kind of a welcome to JB thing - and we found out there what our awards were.

-Base swaps can happen

-No idea on LAX

LA is going to take a significant cut in flying.

The company has stated cuts in LA flying. I’ll be the first one to say I enjoy working for JetBlue but if I were you I would tell you to go to a different airline right now regardless of age. Specially if you’re a west coaster.

If you happen to get lucky and get LA you’re still likely to sit in the bottom for years. AA and UA are the best choices right now. If you still come, welcome, you’ll enjoy it as long as you set expectations.
