I remember Delta guys complaining that profit sharing was a worthless gain during their bankruptcy 2010/2011 concessionary bargaining, too.

Care to maybe walk back your sarcasm?

Not really sarcasm. Was just curious. Profit sharing is one of those industry standard things that they would likely have to give you in the next contract anyways. Will you benefit from this before the next contract is signed? Are you now comparing JetBlue to Delta?

HA! They dont have to give us anything, and certainly not without making sacrifices somewhere else. Getting the oringinal profit sharing formula back was huge, and we didn't give up anything. Its just one less thing to waste bargaining power on during the next round. There is still work do be done to make it industry average however.

What difference does it make if we "benefit before the next contract" or not?

If you can't see why this was an incredible achievement outside of Section 6 bargaining then I'm not sure you will benefit from an explanation.

And yes I will always compare us to our counterparts at other airlines.

As for the VILs, (fly 0 get paid 50), they are voluntary and go senior generally.

This MOU was a win-win.

100% a win win if you don’t want a VIL don’t take one. It’s also one less thing (the cilff) to negotiate now. And without the merger we don’t gas ton of leverage.

With everyone saying Carl will do everything to get the stock up and a profit the lack of the cliff could come in handy (if we have a job)

This was definitely a win from the union.

Two newbie questions:

Can someone please define VIL? Seen the term thrown around a ton, not sure what it stands for. Probably a voluntary leave of some sort?

Also, anyone have the most recent class drop?

Thanks in advance.

Voluntary Incentive Line, get paid 50hrs to stay home and not fly. Company sends an email each month with numbers of VILs for each base/seat. They can decide to award less than the advertised number of VILs.

I’d say the VILs are MOSTLY a win. As a guy that bids reserve sometimes, I’d rather have more reserves so I have a higher chance of getting 75 hours to not fly as opposed to bidding a VIL to not fly at 50 hours. Obviously, VILs are nice too if it fits your financial circumstances. And, yes, I do understand the difference between being off on a VIL and not being used on reserve.
