The industry is fundamentally different now, so I think you missed the point.

Right now, with everything we know, all things point to a UAL new hire having a higher career value than a JB new hire.

I would love to hear which things you see changing to give a JB new hire a higher career value?

When JB has been around 93 years, I am sure its pilots will have a higher career value than an upstart 19-yr old airline.

How does that answer help the value of a new hires career today?

Remember when Herb paid SWA pilots more on the narrow body 737 to make up for no wide body flying? That was a young airline too.

Also the company can afford higher rates. The age of the place is irrelevant.

What's keeping our wages low is people like you being happy about working for less.

I voted NO and was ready to strike. How did you vote again?

There is a huge difference between being stuck here due to longevity and being happy and eager to make less, to the point of coming on here on your free time DEFENDING IT.

Herb never paid more for his pilots. Their rates were abysmal until the big hourly rate increases from 1998-2001. Herbs increased rates at that point but still well behind the legacies. About 20 to 30 an hour less than comparable 737 rates. The rates ended up higher than the legacies only after the massive cuts from 2002-2005. SWA was unable to push for cuts because of a 5 billion dollar fuel hedge windfall.

When you're feeling down in the dumps just remember you could be a regional guy who's performance and hard work goes to paying the mainline guys bonus check.
