Why would it not be socially acceptable if I don’t agree with someone else’s lifestyle? Some people choose not to vaccinate their kids. I don’t agree with that lifestyle. Some people let their pitbull play with their toddlers. I don’t agree with that. Just because I don’t agree with someone else’s lifestyle, doesn’t mean I hate them or think they’re “disgusting.”
And this thread started because someone said the rainbow flag was outside OSC below the American flag. I personally think that spot is reserved for certain things like the state flag or the POW/MIA flag. Flags that serve the vast majority, not a small miniority. Otherwise, you’re promoting that group or lifestyle above all others. That’s fine in certain venues, but not on a pole below the American flag.

Because what you aren't agreeing with isn't the persons "lifestyle", it's them. It's who they are. It's like saying you don't agree with being hispanic. The flag isn't "promoting" a lifestyle. It's solidarity for a group of discriminated against people who number far more than all 20th century POWs combined.

My issue is that you’re comparing the trials and tribulations of a gay person to a POW! You can’t be serious. Starvation, torture, captivity, broken bones, don’t know if you’ll live or die, beatings, chains, etc vs someone making fun of you. Not even remotely in the same league.

It seems like that's the difficult part to get past. You're still equating this with sex. It's not a sex thing, or sexual deviance thing. When two gay people get married, it's because they love each other, not because of some sort of kink. Imagine that story a few posts back where no one showed up to the wedding and put yourself or your son/daughter in that position using something you can relate to.

Hey mod tomgoodman: If this was a slur about an ethnic group rather than sexual orientation would you flag it? If this thread was called "New York's blackest", would it get shut down? Thanks for targeting my post though. You're really on top of if. I imagine you've also thoroughly managed the United thread. APC should be glad to have you.
