You're confused, again.
People (pilots) understand status expression and status identity in different ways. That same dork-look-pilot will gladly show you pics of his 911, Tesla, boat and/or 6,000 sq ft McMansion and tell you he is a "major heavy" or "mainline" pilot (while not joking), to a fellow coworker on the E190, even though we both know we're all "mainline".
Suggesting pilots don't often bid with their ego in mind makes me think you've never actually MET a pilot. Or your situational awareness is so absent you can't see what's right in front of you.

I’ll agree with that. Like when an FO tells me he staying FO for the “QOL” but working 23 days a month. I mean that ain’t my cup of tea but who am I to care? Go home to my shanty, my wife and kids. Go on about my life thinking, mmmm DGAF.

And... some of you make those decisions based, in part, on ego.

Right. I did many years on the E190, now done many on the Airbus. It's fun asking the Airbus guys I fly with if they were ever on the E190 and watching the horrifically offended look on their face while they shake their head no. It's so "beneath" them. I find interesting ways to entertain myself. One guy I fly with regularly, has to tell me at least once a trip, every trip, that his house is "a million dollars". Every trip.
Pilots are fun.
