Default Special Qualification (London flying) bid

I was curious as to what everyone’s thoughts were regarding the SQ bid. Pros? Cons? Reasons for bidding or not bidding?

I personally see red eyes and limited scheduling options as downside.

Another downside: SQ reserves also cover the non-SQ flying in the same base.

Yup. And when will the SQ RSV pilots be notified of non-SQ reserve; DRO, 6 hours before SQ flights, at departure time, one hour after departure ( just incase it has to come back for catering), etc????

And what's the pecking order when placed on normal RSV? Seniority? Credit for the month? Does the Co want to use a SQ pilot today and possibly not have a SQ RSV for tomorrow?

If there was only a document that could be referenced with that much detail already thought out.

Guinea Pigs.

One positive note: If you're short call SQ, you could probably guess what Silo you'll be placed in...day after day.

I see absolutely zero reason to bid it other than ego or complete current boredom.

I think this bid will go very, very junior.... both seats. There is absolutely nothing appealing about this flying, QOL, lifestyle, etc.

Upside, you’re not doing the other terrible trips that abound in the bid pack. You’re getting a nap in during your flight. Commutable on both ends. Not having to answer radio calls for hours on end.

I think it’ll have the same kind of numbers the A220 bid had. Somewhat senior on the Captain side, very junior on the First Officer side. Although with less than 50 CA slots, I can see it going very senior. It only takes senior pilot A, and a couple of his classmate buddies back in 2001 to come out of the woodwork and tilt it senior when you have such a small bid.

This is true. Small bids skew senior.

This and/or they have family or some tie over there. Nothing appealing at all! It’s not like your getting paid more beyond your int’l override.

It’s a way to upgrade to CA for those who want the pay raise. That’s the only reason I see.
