United is paying less than that for its MAX planes. Maybe you're just not getting good deals on jets. There is no way those 220s alone are worth $3-4.5B. Not a chance. Jetblue's entire market cap isn't even $2B.
You can sell this all you want but the last thing United wants or needs is smaller planes. Everything United is getting is upgauging existing planes, not smaller ones.

Yeah idk what on earth he’s talking about. UAL has a ton of low-rent, garbage product 50-76 seaters. The A220 is a serious upgrade to RJ’s.
Delta flies 717’s and A220’s on former RJ routes all across their network.

This makes the most sense out of any explanation I’ve read…

You have to give JetBlue credit where it’s due — management has become exceptionally skilled at shaping the narrative. That dates back to the MWW era, when the lesson seemed to be that it’s not necessarily what you say, but how you say it and how consistently you repeat it. That approach has worked effectively within the airline, as employees buy into the messaging.

The data suggest Jetblue will not. Jetblue enters and exits cities at a rate astronomically higher than any other competitor. Given that fact I would expect Jetblue to cancel a few cities, CLT as an example, within the next few months and re-open or open another.
