At Vets in Blue they very specifically stated a 4-year degree was highly desirable, in fact the person speaking almost made it sound like one of those pass/fail questions.
Her reasons:
1. Shows an ability to learn.
2. Shows you can begin and complete something.
Not my words, no killing the messenger.

If we're talking about school what about associate degrees? Most aviation BS degrees are just 2 year degrees anyways mixed in with flight hour credits and redundant aviation classes. As long as you have some kind of degree and are fine to be with for 4 days then who cares?

Not sure why people are getting so worked up about having a 4 year degree? Right now it seems most, if not all, the majors are mainly interviewing guys and girls who have a 4 year degree. We can debate why they are doing it forever, but that won't change the fact that they are currently doing it for their own reasons. If you don't have a degree, right now you'll probably have to wait for a chance to interview behind the people who do. If you want to change that fact then start taking some classes online and try to get your degree.

This is my opinion and was not stated by the person speaking: A 4-year degree takes HR a lot less time to decipher than "equivalent life experience" which is probably why most airlines like to see it. It is EASY. I don't think anybody is stating a degree makes you smarter, better looking, or a better pilot. I know plenty of stupid, ugly, terrible-*ssed pilots who have 4-year degrees. 10 years of stagnation has built a mountain of guys who both waited to get out of the military and folks stuck at regionals. We're at the front end of the wave and HR departments are just doing what they can to deal with this mountain of applications in as fair a way as possible. Just my opinion.
