JB charges a pretty good premium to go Direct/NonStop. Was just looking at a flight to the Caribbean where JB is the only Non Stop. For similar dept times the JB flight was $900, a UAL through IAD was $365 and only added 2 hours to a sub 5 hour direct flight. Lots of other options below $500 too. That might explain the reason for so many connections....on the other hand JB is finding people to pay those fairs and making some good money. No need for JB to flood the market and kill yield when you are getting such a good premium. BTW the MInt fare was a little over $2K on that flight.

Joe, how many times have we been on this rumor rollercoaster only to have them always turn out to be nothing??? I'm trying to get people to moderate their expectations because this, like every time before, could again turn into another big disappointment.

Or get your hopes way up, again.

No, actually a pretty fun guy. Just hate how this airline always has so many growth rumors that never materialize.

I hear ya. I've heard so may of the "growth" opportunities through out my career, at numerous places, that I just don't believe it until it actually happens. That being said, I'm always optimistic that one day it will come true.

Not to mention, Robin isn't Dave. And numbers don't lie. Someone much smarter than I laid out a reasoning of why we need to grow, and quicker than what we currently have on the books, in order to survive. Whether it's finding other 320/321s somewhere, or merging/acquiring another airline, growth beyond what we have on the books now I think is inevitable.

Intersting article, but for its data not its summary. Let's take Boston to Orlando as an example. Tomorrow we do 7 direct flights, delta does 1. That's it. So 600 of the 700k go on us and 100 goes on delta and 200k are doing one stop either with us or more than likely someone else. What's the problem?

What is the reason? Is it because the combined Alaska/Virgin would be bigger than Jetblue (not sure if they actually are or will be)?

Default Rumors...

Rumors aren't just hear say from one pilot to an other. Every corporation sits around the table and discusses every angle, option and scenario (we hope). So what we hear as rumored probably was presented at the table, whether it evolves or not we will hear about it. We as pilots sit on our monthly bid package hoping that awesome rumor to help me gain 10, 20% movement in hopes to get weekends or holidays off and even upgrade when can take first available or "look I can hold a line" comes true. When it doesn't we *****, it's our nature. What might seem as an eternity to us isn't such in the corporate world. Patience is going to be our best friend. JetBlue has some real good people at the helm, I'm excite for the future.
Cheers, I need to go grab another beer.

Has nothing to do with anything external. It has to do with the constant need to keep up with ROIC. As our fleets age (increased MX costs and eventual need to replace older airframes), as our labor ages (in terms of YOS--each year up to 12 you get longevity pay increases), the costs to run the airline will increase.........in order to keep up with what Wall Street expects, based on what the leadership at JB has projected, our current forecast of fleet purchases will not be enough to keep up with these expectations.....not even close.....
