Default Pass riding with checked bags?

I've never used passes before.

I'm giving some passes to family members. What do I (they) need to know about flying standby with checked bags? Is it uber verboten?

Thanks.

On Jetblue I know for sure that the first checked bag is free. I think the second one is too but I'm not positive.

The biggest risk of checking a bag is there's a good chance that bag is getting on the plane regardless if your family members are on it or not.

We got rid of first bag free a few months back for revenue passengers, unless they buy one of the higher fares. When I check in to jump it allows me to check 2 bags for free - ditto when the wife travels standby. Not sure if this applies to buddy passes or positive space passes though.

Buddy passes get free bags as well. Only caution I give to the pass riders is pack what you need for one day at destination in case your bag doesn't make it. Sometimes bags are held as they were cleared a seat last minute.
