It’s so nice getting the 76’s garbage engines. I’m sure the guys in Brussels loved it. On the bright side most of the 74 fleet is Pratt now, so it won’t be much of an issue.

I'll make a wild ass prediction and say the 767 will start to go much more senior for upgrades. I bet you it will.

In anticipation for ETOPs certification? Why?

No data points needed. We haven't added an aircraft in months. There is a huge backlog of captain training. If nothing changes, upgrades are going to get much more senior as those who have bypassed realize that the time is now.

I don’t know if there’s some acoustic phenomenon that non linearly increases the noise footprint if you increase the number of engines producing the same number of decibels.
ME101: excess thrust available vs required. Due to the ET requirement, the loaded 74 will climb out at a shallower angle than the laden 76, leaving a smaller noise footprint for the latter, even if the db were similar at liftoff.

Aircraft flying 101: a HK departure has a level off altitude and minimum crossing restrictions. Geography 101: HK is mountains, bordered by Red China, surrounded by water. Most departures head towards the wet stuff and away from populated areas. Aircraft performance 401: a fully loaded 74 and 76-3 don’t have much different climb rates below 10,000. The whale(400’s) prefer the mid to upper 30’s, the 76(300) is a low to mid 30’s girl. Aircraft certification 101: all transport category aircraft meet minimum climb gradients. These are called segments.

I think this discussion is all for nothing without real data points comparing the 74/76/77 on noise levels out of Hong Kong. I don't have a source for it.
