I'm just basing my opinion on their words. Defending the company against contractual rights of union members fits my definition of a company man.

Company men? We are just a very happy pilot group.

No one is advocating going to work when you’re sick, but I’d appreciate my friends in Afghanistan not missing out on their supplies because someone simply didn’t want to to the job they signed up to do.

I don't see an issue with what Maxjet said.
First of all, it you are sick, everyone wants you to use your sick time.
Second of all, sounds like he wants to sell it back to the company when he retires, which logically speaking would indicate that he isn't going to use it for nefarious reasons.
And, we have personal days that can be used, deducted from your vacation hours.

I’ve seen this behavior from both senior and junior crew members.

Please explain to me what is wrong with them doing that. Union negotiated sick time. They decide they don’t want to fly and the use sick time. That is why there are reserves and junior guys. When you have enough seniority and you have an important family or other event to attend, and you don’t “bang out sick” I will be disappointed in you. In my case I am saving my sick time as the buy half of it when I retire next year.
What about when it’s the junior guys “banging out”? Also, I’d be very interested to hear the D.O.s reaction to your sick time policy. Using sick days to go watch the a ball game sounds like a good way to get called up to YIP. Just my thoughts, not trying to start a ****ing match with you.

Senior or junior it shouldn’t happen, I agree. Don’t do stupid stuff with sick time. IH’s in YIP are not fun for anyone involved.

Just came back from a trip where one FO openly proclaimed that he wasn’t doing the damn carryover days and was intending to call in sick. Sure enough he did. Sat at breakfast with the captain who agreed to stay out for an extra few days away from his wife and kids in exchange for overtime. Schedule got reshuffled because of the FO and he now had to deadhead home instead for a fraction of the pay. Never mind the implications for the company.

Have some integrity. Call in sick when you or someone who depends on you need it otherwise go sell cosmetics at the mall or flip burgers.

I suggest you give section 7 of the CBA a good read.
So you are saying that your family is less important than this job? I am the one who says WOW.

When I was hired the head of scheduling told us that “sick time was capped and then you lose it. Hint, hint.” We all self certify to fly. Your definition of sick is not someone else’s.

BTW Please invite me to the first meeting(it will be a first) where a pilot is brought in for sick time abuse because they went to their kids ball game. Company has a right, and has used it, to require a pilot, at company expense, to be examined by a doctor before returning to work. The company under NO CIRCUMSTANCES CAN COMPLY A PILOT TO REVEAL THE NATURE OF THEIR SICK CALL. You are protected by HIPA.

Y’all need to stop stating your opinions as fact regarding sick time use. BTW I have heard nothing from my acquaintances about sick time abuse. What I am reading is that some pilots are whining because they don’t like their schedule. It isn’t what they thought is was going to be? In my entire time at K4 I have never once flown my line. You work at will for the company for the time you are contracted to work. End of story.
