What if we renamed them from "Sick Days" to "Well Days"? You take a day to get well from being unable to self-certify fitness. And that would encompass the spectrum from physiological to emotional and psychological wellness? Does that reframe the discussion somewhat?
Agree, have some integrity. But that knife cuts both ways; if you posthole your family/emotional/psychological well being for a moment of virtue signaling, that's on you. And yeah, I think that I’m well within my fiduciary responsibility to the Company to leverage all tools available in order to avoid square corners in my life and be available and ready to fly.
Game is chess, not checkers; long game wins.

Very well written. I wish I communicated this well.😀

If you read my post again you’ll see it covers family needs. I’m responding to people of the “I just can’t” mindset. The person in question was young and single meanwhile people with families carry out their duty as promised when they signed the dotted line. The problem in question here is not calling off for family issues or personal issues. The problem is when people call off out of lack of sense of duty and responsibility.

How is the customer affected? Sour grapes from people on reserve who want to NOT be used, and I know for a fact over on the 767 side, the name of the game is to be used as little as possible since you rarely break guarantee. People live at or near base, they want to be home more often, I get that. However, if that is what you want, to work as little as possible, may I suggest you apply to Spirit and bid reserve? You might be much happier.

Y’all need to stop stating your opinions as fact regarding sick time use.
Just curious how many times you’ve sit next to a pilot during an IH because it sounds like a lot? I’d love to learn from your vast experience. You seem to have all the answers no matter how misguided. You again show that you have no idea how the CBA works and how the company can discipline.

You seem to forget that you started this thread drift with your inaccurate comments about senior pilots acting as children. You and your supporters then create a false narrative of “the company will punish you, the customer will suffer, and a Captain who had to sacrifice time with his family so as to cover a sick call”.

Let’s use my “vast experience” 🙄 to answer this. K4 has never had a problem with sick call abuse. Why? Because you accrue .67 days per month. It is a finite benefit and when it runs out it runs out. Most pilots don’t use sick time because they lose money on the deal. How many pilots have been disciplined for sick time abuse? I am not aware of any. I am not aware of any flights being cancelled because of an illegitimate sick call. I am not aware of ANY pilot EVER being forced to stay over to cover a flight. In fact we have a no junior assignment policy.

I would personally appreciate it if you and your supporters would cease with the false narrative that has no basis in reality. The biggest problem I see with these shenanigans is that other airlines do in fact operate the way that you describe. One of the intangible things of beauty here at Kalitta is that we don’t. Unfortunately, lots of people believe what they read on the internet and do not feel the need to verify.

Wait you aren’t getting CC’ed the IH letters? This will not stand. The MEC must hear about this.

I recall there was some mention of “children” among the 76 pilots...
