About once a month you’ll either catch a ride on company aircraft, or deadhead the first leg and operate the second. Most of your deadheads will be on commercials though.

I have to disagree with you here. I would say that it is about 50/50 on company aircraft and commercial flights. And depending on the airline and the length of trip and the type of company aircraft (BCF or Freighter) it is sometimes a much nicer trip on company aircraft. I sometimes choose that if it works in preference to a commercial flight.

It obviously depends on where you live and what flights you are doing. Here’s an example of last month for me: Commercial to LA. Operate to RKSI. Commercial to VHHH. Operate to OBBI. DH to EBBR. Operate back and forth to CVG. Van ride to ETAR. Operate to DOV. Commercial to MIA. Operate to PANC. Operate a few more flights in a row. Commercial home.

4 commercials 1 company DH. Getting to and from work already stacks the deck by 2 flights. Unless you drive to work, or just DH a lot, I would count on commercialing more.

Locke,

Could you elaborate on which of those legs, including commercial travel and DH, that you did in one day? I'm trying to get an idea of what a typical tour would look like.

I have only DH'd on company metal three times this year. Much more common for me at least to be on a commercial flight. I think every situation is different.... and it runs in streaks. 4-5 years ago... I rarely flew commercial and spent lots of time riding in the back.

Are you still responsible for paying your way to recurrent?

Yes unless you are already on a trip. You can alway jumpseat if you want to be cheap.

One could do some day off flying right before recurrent, or bid in such a way to have it in the middle, beginning, or end of a trip or simply use some of your frequent flyer miles to get a free ride into recurrent, avoiding the one time of the year that you need to beg for a jumpseat like all the pax peasants do.

Is it usually closer to the 4 weeks or the six weeks to first contact from the email?

Got the email a week ago

6000
1500 pic
747 types 500 hours on it

Have to admit hiring 100 Xjet guys puts anyone downline in a longer upgrade position unless 10 plus growth airframes show up.

But for those in front of that wave. You guys hit it perfect. Congrats!
