We've hired a ton of pilots (in Kalitta terms) since the contact was signed 12/22/16. A quick look at the seniority list shows 81 hires since signing. What are you saying?

I think NL3 is saying we are not hiring pilots who have no PIC time and are current FO's at their regional for instance.

I'm not saying that's true or not true
just what I think he is trying to convey

I don’t know what goes on with the hiring process as I am not involved in it. What I am seeing agrees with NL3 FO only assessment.

They seem to be placing a lot of weight on the intelligence level of the applicant. We are getting a higher percentage of single pilot jets and turboprop people with no 121 time. They have also extended training for a number of these pilots recently as they understand how the crew concept and lack of 121 experience can be a disadvantage. When an Airman shows up with a good attitude, works hard and doesn’t give up the company has given up to twice as much FTD or Sim time.

Recently had a pilot who struggled due to military TP background and only a few months as an FO at PSA. We got him trained to proficiency and out to the line. He left 2 months after IOE, for of all places, Jet Blue. No he didn’t live in one of their bases. I was very disappointed.

Although I support your right to move in this environment, these kinds of actions from a retired military pilot may cause the company to question whether it is worth the substantial cost to give additional training. That being said, you owe the company nothing. It is just that sometimes your personal actions have unintended consequences for others.

Oh great, I'm retiring military, but I have plenty of PIC (turboprop) and multi-crew time, and I'm a pretty good dude. Hopefully he hasn't tarnished us all.

Sorry for the confusion, yes, I meant people with no TPIC, mainly regional FO’s.

I wouldn’t worry about it. Going through training and immediately heading to perceived greener pastures is a common theme everywhere in aviation. There’s plenty of mil guys here now that are doing great and would counter any anti-military sentiments.

There’s always the guys that will leave to the big boys both military and civilian. Fedex , UPS and the legacies offer much more than any ACMI especially for someone younger. This job’s not for everyone. Some guys don’t like the long stretch away from home and the big time zone changes.

International Base (home base)- How flexible is the company on int. base? For instance Asia base like ICN, HKG, NRT, etc.

Will chances of hire be lower if one was to ask for Int. base?

Many Thx!

You can live where you want. They won’t pay for travel outside the 50 states, but you can DH on your own metal or even perhaps start and end a trip from HKG or ICN maybe. If not, we have enough flights doing HKN and ICN to DH home and to work.
