Default A good place for to run around ATL

I'm a reserve pilot with a crashpad in college park. All the roads around my crashpad don't have sidewalks, which make tthem a bit dangerous for jogging. Any suggestions for parks/trails around college park for 5+ mile runs without worrying about being mugged?

Piedmont park is the ONLY place i'd recommend running ITP.

DO NOT run in college park..it's asking for trouble.

I would not run anywhere in College Park without a way to protect myself. I used to ride a road bicycle around the outer loop around the airport quit a bit, and I did that for years with no problem. I believe they even installed some sidewalks you can use on the west side. Be aware that south Atlanta is a hotbed of violent crime and it's nothing to play around with. Make the drive to Vinings or Piedmont Park if you are not armed.

I have run before on the road that goes around the airport (perimeter??). Specifically from the Drury inn right across from Flight Safety down towards the cargo ramp and Mercury FBO. It seemed safe enough during the day, but there is little traffic, so it could be a good place for an oppurtune attack if the attacker thought it through. That whole area seems kinda dumpy unfortunately. I would definitely not have wanted to run that same route after the sun went down.

I'll probably just drive every morning to silver comet trail. That seems like the only doable option.

God I used to love that thing. 50+ miles of rural bliss. It's one of the best things about Atlanta. I started riding it from about 1999 and I recall when it stopped a good distance prior to Cedartown. They just kept working on it and adding more, all high quality infrastructure. It is one of the great attractions of Atlanta now. I do think it has become a bit overtrafficked now, I recall having to pick my biking times around all the hikers by about 2006. You can still ride like a maniac on it but you really need to keep off it during family hour.

Here is a route that is exactly 15 miles you could do on bike. It s a fairly safe route during business hours. I would still take a phone, mace and if feasible a firearm, but I did this route many times without so much as a single scary encounter. Much of it has bike paths, all of it has road shoulders, and some of it has sidewalks. There is steady traffic on it and you are not alone.

There is a park off of Hwy 41 just inside the perimeter. It's right on the Chattahoochee River. Paved bike/running path up and down some hills. Follows the river for a bit and is a good and challenging run. If you want there is even a trail into the woods that offers a decent hike for the Atlanta area.
