"It's called "Leaving the industry"! Why are you even in here in the first place if you don't want out?"

Ahhh....I've got no problem with those looking for a way out. I'd suggest looking into the pharmaceutical sales gig. You can do it with an aviation degree and Tony M says a short medical sales course.

My problem is when people post stuff here that I find factually incorrect based on my experience and based on the experience of those I know in the biz. I won't stand by and let some of the BS I see here go unchallenged. If you want to bury your head in the sand and have this be a one sided forum with no retort or response, then that's your business.

I honestly think this forum was created with the best of intentions. Unfortunately, some of us can't let the stuff we've seen posted here go unanswered. Thus, this place is what it is.

Feel free to start a new thread that points this forum in the direction you'd like to see. It's a young forum and a new place. Frankly, the welcome back to Tony M stuff long ago reached it's prime.

It's a free country, a free website, and a free forum. Rather than complain about what it is start something new to make it what it should be....

If you wan't to call this a profession, you shouldn't see threads about "what do you guys do for second jobs?" I know someone very close to me who left law practice for a while, and decided to go back after a three year hiatus (sp). All she had to do was take her "CLE" which is the attorney version of a recurrent. When she did, she was wooed by a few firms, and all three of them FLEW HER DOWN ON THEIR DIME (yes, NJA does this....but only them.) took her out to lunch, and kissed her a$$! They then paid her to sit at home and study for the Florida bar. When she was ready, they paid for her Bar exam. When she selected the firm she wanted to work at, they hired her as an "of counsel" (somewhere between an associate and a partner). They also told her exactly when she'd be up for partnership, and it happened. She did NOT have to start at the bottom. She did NOT take a crappy salary. Do you guys think it's OK that ups has all of those apps? what about SWA? NJA? How long do you fall over yourselves (I'm guilty of it too) to get these jobs?

rant over.

No industry is immune to cycles. Even lawyers.

Now, if you want to be an attorney, I've got no problem with that -- knock yourself out. If you want to be a doctor -- more power to you. Doctor Montana probably has some good advice on how to do that, including making your dimes stretch when you're homeless and living in the hospital. (Not a bed of roses, huh?)

Just don't stand around here and say that it's no longer possible to achieve the pinnacle of the aviation industry, or that it's not worth the trouble. It's achievable, and for those who want it, it's worth it. If you don't want to try anymore, that's fine. There's no shame in doing that. Just don't make that decision and then shout to the rooftops that it can NOT be done, because it can, and people do it. Still.

If the fox had walked away and said, "I think I can find some grapes that are within my reach," and he did, we'd all be applauding his ingenuity. That's not what these guys are doing, and it's intellectually dishonest, and I feel compelled to speak out against it.

There are ...

well, shucks, I got a call from a detective, made a quick trip to the station, picked the thief out of a lineup, and now I'm back at home and don't remember what that sentence was supposed to be.

Anyway, yes, I think it's great that UPS has all those applications. That tells me there are still lots of people that want that job, and for good reason. Relatively few that try will get there, but everyone that quits won't. From where I sit, it was worth the trouble.

So, I for one am glad you post, and others who have left. Thank you.

What I do not understand is why those who love this industry are here. It's called "Leaving the industry"! Why are you even in here in the first place if you don't want out?

Jesus, it's almost like this forum has become the antithesis of its name. The "Pilot Profession Defense Force" is out in full effect here. How dare one decide to do something else with their life. Let us who want out actually talk about it for crying out loud!
NightSky -

Are you saying that the ones who AREN'T leaving the industry shouldn't be allowed to post here?
So do you believe that ones who ARE leaving the industry shouldn't be allowed to post anywhere else - you know - other forums or threads where people have started off asking about how to [get into the career]and then are bombarded with the negative responses. And I'm not talking about the [be careful and know what you are getting into] responses - I'm talking about the [you are wasting your life and not caring for your family] type of reponses. Is that fair in your opinion?
If a certain group can post in any other forum then what is your problem with the so-called "Pilot Profession Defense Force" posting here?

This thread has gone so far off topic (back by popular demand) that I think it's time to give it a rest.
