By the way, stop acting like youre are God's gift because you are a firefighter. Most individuals become firefighters to help people, and also for another reason, the time off. All my friends who are Cops will quit in a split second if they are called for the CFD. You know why? The time off you get. The original question posed was not about how dangerous a job is, but rather the time away from home. If you are at the firehouse all day, your loved ones can come see you anytime they want, unless you are on scene. As a pilot, they would need to travel 100's of miles in most cases. Stick to the subject, and what question is being posed and we wouldnt be having this discussion.

Default Wow

Wow, You guys are tearing it up. I was a county firefighter for 10 months. I did not like the pay and was scared to death on every shift. I could not sleep at the station and I did not like medical aid at all.

They were grooming me to become an engioneer when I got a call to fly a contract for the Forest Service and quit to go back to flying. Years later I made it to a regional and then the regret began to sink in that I quit the department. As a regional pilot I was making even less money, worked three times as much and still did not get any sleep.

I like what I do now the best. Plenty of sleep.

Default My WHOLE point-

in asking for opinions on what a "Professional Pilot" was-is this.

I find it amusing, and down right ridiculous, that some of you think that people like Sky, myself, and others are "No Longer" professional pilots.

Heres another example for you-if somehow I lost my mind and went back to a regional airline flying job-would that mean that I was no longer a M.D.?

IMO, once a person has achieved a level of personal success, they're THERE.

If you do not fly for compensation, then you are not a professional. For example, on the PGA tour their are young individuals who play in the U.S. Open, The Master's, etc. If they place in the money, they cannot accept it. Why? Because once they accept money, they are considered professional golfers.

I've got a CDL with a HAZMAT and bus endorsement. That doesn't mean I'm a bus driver or a truck driver.

You're confusing credentials with employment status.

Do you also consider yourself a college student since you did that before?

Golf is a game-attempting to make a living isn't.

And wow, you leave your family for 24 hours at a time??? A whole 24 hours??? Oh, the humanity!!!! (And to think those slackers in the military only leave for 14 months at a time and the majority make far less than 80K.)

I feel your pain brother…

That is beside the point, but what do you think that a professional golfer isnt trying to make a living? None of them, as much as they love the game, would go out, practice all the time, and play for nothing.
