"The low-income threshold — roughly $45,000 for a family of four."
Regional first officer pay... Well you guys can do the math. Legacy airline wages are not all that far above it either. Professional airline pilots need to be paid much better than they do.
It is invincible to me that the profession is bumping up against mailman wages and low income status but here we are.

What the hell is invincible Sky?
Things for sky:
1) there NEVER was room for everyone at the top in this business...EVER
2) NOBODY feels guilt about your aviation situation
3) MAYBE your bad choice was having a family before you and your wife could afford it
4) Sky was either going to be a Major Airline CA, OR this industry failed him... such BS
5) Unjust..?? did you really say that....with the entitlement dripping from your lips
6) You say you are waiting for a miracle but the reality is NOBODY is going to hire you into your dream job (if it even existed) if you want some form of that you are going to have to get back into the industry with what it haves to offer and since we are all painfully aware your are not going to do that. Cessna 150 CA....really?

The problem is that those who made it do not want to think that it was an advantage that was the difference. They want to believe that merit, effort and a superior intellect were the reasons.
To the guys who did not make it they know they tried hard enough, are smart enough and were worthy of the job so it must have been something else.
Newbies who are placing their faith in the profession do not want to believe that fate, whimsy or social status could be the reason some advance over others. They need to feel that they have a chance if they just try hard enough.

That answer has been given so many times that it isn't even funny GoPats.
Have you really missed it?
Sky asks that others not crap on his message, but that is what EVERY ONE of his posts are to others in the career.
And you support this and other parts of his posts too by your silence when shown exactly what you ask for; yet Sky calls on others as having rose-colored glasses? Please
The median income for my state on the last statistics was just over $41,000 (and I come from a state with a lot of oil money) MEDIAN!

Some might call that hitting your head against the wall. Just saying. Where is one to draw the line between stick-to-it determination and foolishness.
Once again, and obviously, the facts have already answered your question. One of us has accomplished your dream goal and the other, you, are sitting at home making excuses and rationalizing. Seems pretty clear cut to me.
When I get knocked down my natural reaction is to come up swinging. I've never been known to run home with my tail between my legs.

What Sky neatly tiptoes around is that he wanted to fly and be in the top 5% income bracket. He ignores that only five in one hundred will ever make it there doing anything. In any field it is tough to make it to the top.
It would be nice if sky would write more on the bucolic joys of tending a ranch, mail delivery, old truck restoration, working odd jobs, alternate lifestyles, and in general just being a folksey persona among the gentle people of his village.
This would be far more entertaining and informative.
And to this:Census shows 1 in 2 people are poor or low-income - Yahoo! News
Dear me, draw a median or average and half of us will be on the bottom, how is this unexpected? The real truth here is that probably a third of us are worth less than zero, under water in other words, not because of some vast conspiracy, but because of our own poor choices.
While beating a dead horse does seem to provide amusement for some, it never compares to finding a new mount and continuing the charge.
"Together, I will ride you to victory." Viceroy Percy Riding-Phelse, on having his mount shot out from under him and gaining a new mount by cutting the arm from an opponent during the battle of Petes Rift in 1837. Now used as a slogan by bogus leaders everywhere.

You're forgetting about the agreement with the message, but not approving of the other derisive content of his messages. Maybe if his 'converts' (I know you hate that word and you should tell HIM that since he is the one that coined it) suggested that he keep on topic it would help for future posts. He obviously doesn't listen to the "other side".
Plus - I just figured that if someone pointed out the example of what you would say was wrong that you might acknowledge it at some point rather than brush by it.
You ask why worry about it?
You might ask Sky the same question and ask why he continues to make post after post with the same content. Why worry Sky?
As long as he keeps making inaccurate and off topic assumptions and accusations about other aspects of the people in aviation then I will be the voice pointing those items out to the masses just as he believes he is doing a service.
Addition: GoPats - you seem to be able to present the very same message without being polarizing. Why do you think that is?

A quote from “The last lecture” by Randy Pausch (10/23/60 – 07/25/08)
“But remember, the brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. They’re there to stop the other people.”
I think Sky has a valid message for some who are considering or currently in the aviation career field. For many, the income and benefits are their brick walls.
For me, Sky’s message is slanted too much towards the income side of the equation. I respect his opinion but I also consider the brick wall too high for him to climb.
I’m a regional FO… bottom of the barrel you might say. The job is gratifying and the pay sucks. Regardless, I have managed to maintain aircraft ownership and am teaching my 15 yr old son to fly. We have a “well off” attorney that flies into our local airport in his half a million dollar Cirrus. He can’t fly worth a sh*t. He consistently bounces or lands on the nose gear. Upon shut down, he jumps out of his pristine bird with the leather jacket and Ray Bans. I would rather be the low income guy teaching his son to be a real aviator than the poser who’s really just a “wanna be”. Money isn’t everything…
