I was thinking more like a DOD type of security clearance but this seems different. Kind of a weird numbering system but I am sure there's some logic behind it.

Safety inspectors receive a public trust background check. The DOD does them for the FAA and they get done in just a couple of months.

If you get a tentative offer of employment they'll bring you to OKC where you'll get to show off your aeronautical knowledge and flying skills with a private pilot level oral exam and then 90 minutes in a B737 sim doing the same maneuvers as a proficiency check.

Thanks very much for that information. I spoke with the DFW CMO director who did a very short application check. Fortunately for me I can skip the check ride since my last CLOE will have been within 11 months. So hopefully just interview, references check, background check and maybe an CO. Still probably several months in the making...
