757 FO year 6 commuter
180 block 100 overnights (about 9 per month) $170k normal line $30k overtime/draft (a few LCA buy off and flew draft) $17k B fund $11k A fund (dividing $130k payout by 12) $7k per diem $500 401k match $235.5k I fly almost 100% nights and with a large cargo can full of nasty HAZMAT on nearly every flight. Oh not to mention the radioactive, biohazard, and explosives in the back. Im not sure my compensation is all that great in the grand scheme of things. Our 757 pay rate sucks. |

Yea. That. I want that.
If you're referring to my post, the 11 years will go by in the blink of an eye. Hopefully the good times last for the duration of your ride here at UAL. As always, it's up and down in the biz. I started CAL at $29/hr with no insurance for the first six months. Glad to finally see we are paying our new hires with a relatively decent wage and benefits today. |

Concur with the 757 pay rate sucking. However, why not bid the bus? You could be pretty senior, holding day trips with your seniority. Even the MD-11 or 767 could be pretty good for you. You could probably bid junior widebody captain next bid and hold it if you wanted. Get off the 757!

Good luck beans! Seemed like you where never happy here at SWA. There are a lot of reasons people don’t apply to Fed Ex/UPS. Long haul cargo is not for everyone. Some have already done it for a decade plus in other capacities and seen the toll it takes on the body.
Things are rosy right now everywhere. It wasn’t too long ago ups was hiring straight to the left seat management pilots while guys where still furloughed. The risks are there flying cargo. I don’t think amazon is an immediate threat but over a career I would definitely worry about Jeff Bezos. Again, good luck. We don’t make the most at Swa and we are trying to change that, but try not to burn any bridges on the way out. This profession is fraught with broken promises and broke retired pilots. |

C'mon people post some real numbers. My favorite is the 6 yr Jet Blue 190 Captain making $292k yr. 40% of these posts are complete BS.

*Most* guys live in domicile and make themselves available for premium trips-usually drop as much of their schedule as possible and hang by the phone waiting for premium. Or trip trade into more valuable trips etc. lot of ways to skin the cat.
But don’t forget at SWA and FEDEX they have paid vacation drop so that’s a huge part of it as well. |
