Whoa easy guys.. I never said I wanted to pay ALPA zero. Believe me I am quite thankful things are working out as well as they are - but I do have to endure things that many many people senior to me are not willing to in order to make that happen too.
What is interesting to me about ALPA dues and really why I included it in my post was that I never really cared about paying dues in my 10 years at the regionals. It wasn't on my radar, even though it was the same percentage. I guess now this year I really started noticing that a very significant amount of money is going their way. Just food for thought more than anything.

You have to endure things those senior to you don't? Did someone force you to bid the left seat of the 88? Because when I was in year 3, I, like thousands of other pilots, was into my second year of furlough. By all means, though, tell us more about the indignities that you have to endure.

Where's that Dave Chappelle clip. When keepin it real goes wrong :D |
Well I think BobZ got it, while some others here seem to be missing the point. And yes Bob, I see the other half of that equation now.
I'm not whining. I chose the early upgrade because it is worth it in my mind. I have no regrets. Perhaps 'endure' was not the best word - but the point is that I work a schedule and an airplane that nobody else seems to want. That's it.. Sorry to see that some people are unable to recognize I was simply providing the context of how these early upgrades come about. I don't understand why some here seem spring loaded to shoot down fellow posters at any possible opportunity. We're all in it together, sheesh. It's a thread for sharing information, I kinda figured that my post may have been helpful in raising the bar at other carriers, or perhaps helping people choose where they want to go next if they're so lucky as to have choices.. If we can't use this thread (and forum) for that purpose and instead choose to use it as fodder for in-fighting we're all worse off. |

Your initial post just rubbed me wrong because you seemed to be looking a gift horse in the mouth. I wish you a long and prosperous career. Your timing has been more fortuitous than most. |
Phuz.....appreciate many of us have sore spots from the beatings of the last 25 or 30 years it took to arrive at the dal pwa you are now experiencing.
Our pwa now has genuine value and a real hat tip to equity of access across as much of the list as possible. It is my highest hope this new generation of pilots will understand the significance of what they are being handed....and vigorously protect and where possible improve the legacy. As for our CBA.....Im kinda like Churchill when it comes to ALPA....its the worst form of government...except for all others. Lol! |
Give a pilot a bag of money and it's just too heavy for him..........
Being able to upgrade at a legacy in year 3 in a seniority system and having to "endure" things those above don't. The agony.

If I had to guess, so did the government. |

It wasn’t long ago that 3rd year pay at most majors was around $100 an hour. Not to mention new hire pay of $70-80 compared to previous $25. At United, my 777 sim partner was just finishing his 2nd year and was around $180 an hour. Those rates would not have been possible without ALPA and collective bargaining.
