Truth be told, I'd rather have a very competent guy at the controls, than a guy whose only just barely competent. However, both are recognized as having met the standards, and that should be just fine.

Those who treat the job as just that and not a profession will fall to the bottom while the cream of the crop will raise to the top. Just a thought, but then again...who knows where the industry will be in 10 years?!

You don't even want to go there. "Peer Reviews", at least in industry, means a personality contest. We really don't need that, and in fact, have no room for that, in this business. Whereas I would like all my fellow crewmembers to work and play well with others, dress appropriately, be clean shaven, not smell bad, etc, I'd much prefer to fly with guys who know how to fly the jet and more importantly make good decisions during bad times.
I don't see anything other than a seniority based system in the vast majority of the airline industry, at least until all airlines are being piloted by computers, or guys sitting in Operations building somewhere.
