I, and several of my coworkers, do realize that if we (AA) are ever bought out, we will not only end up at the bottom of some airline's list but probably also have to reinterview for the job. I don't want that to happen, and as such I've always believed in treating any acquired pilot group in a fair manner. However, my opinion of what's fair varies with other pilots. My take has always been: let's take the high road and honor the contract we (APA) signed and let it be. Had the shoe been on the other foot, and TWA had acquired AA, we AA pilots would have been fighting for the same thing.

That said, you will read a lot about up and coming APA candidates for president who wish to dismantle Supp CC. My guess is that they are trying to garner political support from those who wish to see it dismantled - and there are quite a few of those - but this must not tempt you to believe that all AA pilots think the same. They don't.

I believe that if Supp CC needs to be changed, we should only change it in a way that still preserves those career expectations promised to those pilots for whom it was created. Otherwise, we are subjecting ourselves to quite a nasty lawsuit that we would probably lose (DFR.)

Finally, I also realize why Iron Pants Spud is ticked off... but to make comments belittling our fellow dead crewmembers pretty much displays his lack of professionalism for all to see. I'm sure that if one of those crewmembers were a friend of his, he'd be a little more respectful.

Thanks, Fli. On an unrelated note, AA has announced the recall of 200 F/As, to include both native and ex TWA. The rumor mill says to expect more in the near future. This is good news, just curious on how many will actually come back.

More than you'd expect. I know a TWA flight attendant who is on furlough (35 years seniority) and she is dying to come back. Most of the TWA senior flight attendants have been doing this their entire lives. Most do it because they enjoy it, not because they want to make lots of $$$. Kids are gone. Unlike being a pilot where the job truly "is not what it used to be," I don't think the flight attendant job has taken as much of a hit. If many of these super senior TWA flight attendants did not leave after 9/11, or did not retire / take early retirement after being furloughed, they are definately coming back!

 

How senior is the most junior TWA f/a who was recalled. I am trying to get an idea of how senior of a TWA f/a you have to be to get recalled on this round.

How senior is the most senior TWA F/A furloughed back in July 2003 ???

Our number 1 was hired in 1959. She was merged with a senioirty date of Spring 2001.
Most of the single and double digit F/As were hired in the early 60's. I just looked at the list, and will try to get an idea of their dates of hire...

The recalls, are nice but are hollow. 90% of the TWA F/As recalls rights have already expired and 100% will expire, July 1st. Recalls begin mid-June and unless the current F/A contract is amended only 103 TWA F/As will be recalled in June and maybe a few in July. Unfortunately, 5600 were furloughed.

Best of luck, some good news in this business is better than none.

Ironspud's comments may be harsh but they were certainly in retaliation to AA pilots' comparisons of "KMart vs. Nordstrom" pilots, etc. I hate to put it this way, but his statement is a great equalizer in any pompous AA pilot's attempt to describe why he's more qualified than the next at his profession. To head off any potential salvo of "hey, not all AA pilots think that way" let me acknowledge just that...that I don't believe every AA pilot thinks that way. But there are a large number that do.

And because Ironspud's probably lost more than any AA pilot has, I certainly understand his bitterness. You can't say you've experienced as much angst until you make Captain, get reduced to F/O, and then hit the street because of a boardroom decision and your own national union's desire to court the opposition. Even the senior TWA f/o's have a right to be almost as bitter. They were within months of upgrade.

So with that aside, let's move to CC. Those very people that the new candidates seek to disenfranchise will definitely be the ones to launch a jihad through a DFR suit. If you really think that removing or negatively modifying Supp CC is to the AA pilot's advantage wait until it plays out in court. Better yet, call your APA legal reps and ask just what the most likely outcome would be.
