Back in my regional days when I commuted, I got selected to be on a grand jury, which wound up lasting 5 weeks.
Pay protected
Didn't have to commute
Weekends off
Got to cosplay as a 9-5 worker for a few weeks....buy the morning paper, a cup of coffee, ride to "work" on the bus, an hour for lunch, etc..
Learned a teeny bit about the legal system
Did my civic duty
I was glad when it was over, but it was overall a nice break from the airline pilot routine. Plus that long of service entitled me to no jury duty for 10 years (which elapsed 5 years ago)

Only scumbags and hillbillies show up for jury duty and acquit the perpetrator.
What would you think then?

In my state, a grand jury is empaneled for 6 months. We were given all of our required days for each month. Of course the crew desk is advised of all dates for the 6 months. I got back with the crew desk to make sure they dropped the trips from monthly bid that conflicted with my assigned dates in court; after the 3rd month and thereafter, no issues. All dates are pay protected at my airline.
On the Wednesday or Thursday prior to a week that had scheduled dates, you call the State Attorney’s office to confirm which, if any dates the Grand Jury will be meeting. It is possible that you might have the whole week off, or maybe not meet every day as initially scheduled, which allows you flexibility to pick up an open trip at your airline (get paid for the dropped trip and also for the open trip), or just enjoy the time off.
Grand Jury only hears cases of Capital crimes, usually murder.

You should try to serve.... we need thinking, rational, and logical people in juries. You might be able to ensure someone sees the justice they deserve, or not get punished when they don't deserve it. Juries are the second to last resort for citizens in this Republic.
