In some counties/cities you can make a written or phone-in request to be excused. In the excuse, point out your military service and PTSD, the family members (or yourself) who were victims of crimes so you're biased, how many family members you have who are law enforcement officers, etc etc. Especially in larger cities however, a lot of time they still want you to come in to get formally talked through the process even if they know in advance one or the other side's lawyers will object to your presence.
If you don't have any obviously biasing factors, perhaps joining the local sheriff reserves or joining the marines or something equally life-changing would be the way to go if you really want to disqualify yourself from jury duty.
Or... maybe commit a couple of felonies and serve some time? That might do it too.

A lot of stuff you don't disclose until you're at the court and get handed the paperwork. Best bet is to be honest and say you're a pilot on a variable schedule. Even better if you commute. You have no way of knowing if you'll get back in town for jury duty since you're not guaranteed a seat home. Explain you would have to take multiple days off just to show up.
Here in CLT you don't find out if you have to show up until 5pm the night prior. Fairly useless for commuters.
It's been a long time since I served but I remember the questionnaire just covered my age, job, and education level. When seated in the jury box I was asked if I actually lived in CLT or if I was a commuter. One guy with a DUI was asked how he felt about how he was treated in that incident. His answer was somewhat ambivalent and he was excluded.
