The other issue is it gets taken away from them and used against them, or to facilitate hijacking. That's why we don't have openly armed security guards on planes... they can be outnumbered, and they can't call for backup.

That’s exactly what I was alluding to earlier. Plus, pepper spray in an enclosed tube is an absolutely awful idea. If you’ve ever used it before then you would agree.

Which is exactly what would happen. They have zero weapon retaining training, and the cost to give it to them is prohibitive, and impractical.

Another problem is decades of FAs being coddled and told outright by CAs that they would back them up "no matter what." The mask mandate has given the feeling to some of those FAs that they are now extremely empowered, and I've personally been in a situation where a FA threatened a passenger with police arrest for not wearing a mask.
